Described are Galectin-1/Ig fusion constructs and methods of use thereof, e.g., in diagnostic and biomedical assays, and as therapeutic agents for the treatment of conditions associated with immune dysfunction, e.g., autoimmune diseases, and cancers.

1 . An isolated Galactin-1-Ig (Gal-Ig) fusion construct, comprising:
 a first portion comprising a Galectin-1 polypeptide, and   a second portion comprising an Fc fragment of an immunoglobulin or a variant thereof, linked in frame with the first portion, optionally with a linker sequence between the first and second portions.
