Azeotrope-like compositions comprising 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene

Abstract

An azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of chlorotrifluoropropene and at least one component selected from the group consisting of a C 1 -C 3 alcohol, a C 5 -C 6 hydrocarbon, a halogenated hydrocarbon, methylal, methyl acetone, water, nitromethane, and combinations thereof.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A composition comprising a ternary azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, trans-1,2-dichloroethylene and a third component selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, n-pentane and isohexane. 
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1  wherein 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided as the trans isomer. 
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided in an amount from about 80 to about 99.9 wt. %, methanol is provided in an amount from about 0.05 to about 15 wt. %, and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene is provided in an amount from about 0.05 to about 10 wt. %. 
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided in an amount from about 85 to about 99 wt. %, n-pentane is provided in an amount from about 2.0 to about 4.5 wt. %, and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene is provided in an amount from about 0.01 to about 13 wt. %. 
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 1  wherein 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided as the cis isomer. 
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 5  wherein cis-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided in an amount from about 60 to about 80 wt. %, isohexane is provided in an amount from greater than 0.0 to about 20 wt. %, and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene is provided in an amount from about 20 to about 35 wt. %. 
     
     
         7 . The composition of  claim 5  wherein cis-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided in an amount from about 60 to about 80 wt. %, ethanol is provided in an amount from greater than 0.0 to about 20 wt. %, and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene is provided in an amount from about 20 to about 35 wt. %. 
     
     
         8 . The composition of  claim 1  further comprising at least one adjuvant. 
     
     
         9 . A heat transfer composition comprising the composition of  claim 8 , wherein said adjuvant is selected from the group consisting of a co-blowing agents, fillers, vapor pressure modifiers, flame suppressants, stabilizers, lubricants, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         10 . A heat transfer composition comprising at least about 50% by weight of the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         11 . A blowing agent comprising the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         12 . A blowing agent comprising at least about 5% by weight of the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         13 . A foamable composition comprising one or more components capable of forming foam and the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         14 . A foam formed from the foamable composition of  claim 13 . 
     
     
         15 . A closed cell foam comprising the foam of  claim 14 . 
     
     
         16 . A sprayable composition comprising a material to be sprayed and a propellant comprising the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         17 . The sprayable composition of  claim 16  in the form of an aerosol. 
     
     
         18 . The sprayable composition of  claim 16  wherein said material to be sprayed is selected from the group consisting of cosmetics, cleaning solvent, lubricants and medicinal materials. 
     
     
         19 . A solvent composition comprising the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         20 . A composition comprising a ternary azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, n-pentane and methanol. 
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 20  wherein 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided as the trans isomer. 
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 21  wherein trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is provided in an amount from about 55 to about 99.90 wt. %, methanol is provided in an amount from about 0.05 to about 10 wt. %, and pentane is provided in an amount from about 0.05 to about 35 wt. %. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 20  further comprising at least one adjuvant. 
     
     
         24 . A heat transfer composition comprising the composition of  claim 23 , wherein said adjuvant is selected from the group consisting of a co-blowing agents, fillers, vapor pressure modifiers, flame suppressants, stabilizers, lubricants, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         25 . A heat transfer composition comprising at least about 50% by weight of the composition of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         26 . A blowing agent comprising the composition of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         27 . A blowing agent comprising at least about 5% by weight of the composition of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         28 . A foamable composition comprising one or more components capable of forming foam and the composition of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         29 . A foam formed from the foamable composition of  claim 28 . 
     
     
         30 . A closed cell foam comprising the foam of  claim 29 . 
     
     
         31 . A sprayable composition comprising a material to be sprayed and a propellant comprising the composition of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         32 . The sprayable composition of  claim 31  in the form of an aerosol. 
     
     
         33 . The sprayable composition of  claim 31  wherein said material to be sprayed is selected from the group consisting of cosmetics, cleaning solvent, lubricants and medicinal materials. 
     
     
         34 . A solvent composition comprising the composition of  claim 20 .
