Abstract
Materials and methods for reducing or preventing bleeding and associated side effects during and after percutaneous medical procedures.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A hemostatic device for achieving hemostasis in a percutaneous tract of a kidney, said device comprising:
an elongate member having an exterior surface, an interior surface, a distal end, and a proximal end, said exterior surface and interior surface extending from said distal end to said proximal end; an interior lumen defined by said interior surface for receiving surgical implements when said elongate member is placed in said percutaneous tract of said kidney, said interior lumen extending from said distal end to said proximal end; a hemostatic material on said exterior surface; a removable covering surrounding said hemostatic material; a channel portion and a non-channel portion located on said exterior surface of said elongate member for retaining said hemostatic material, said channel portion extending in a direction from said distal end toward said proximal end and configured to retain more of said hemostatic material than said non-channel portion; a synthetic resin on said channel portion to facilitate contact between said hemostatic material and said kidney when said covering is removed; wherein said elongate member is configured to achieve said hemostasis along a length of said elongate member upon insertion into said bodily organ while said surgical implements remain in said interior lumen for performing surgery on said bodily organ.
2 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a radio-opaque marker on said elongate member for confirming the proper placement of said elongate member inside said kidney.
3 . The device of claim 1 further comprising a midpoint on said exterior surface between said distal end and said proximal end, said channel portion extending from said distal end to at least said midpoint.
4 . The device of claim 1 where said hemostatic material is coated on said exterior surface.
5 . A device for percutaneous procedures comprising:
an elongate member having an exterior surface and an interior lumen through which surgical implements can be placed when said elongate member is placed in a wall of an internal organ, said exterior surface and said interior surface extending from a distal end to a proximal end of said elongate member; a hemostatic material on said exterior surface; a covering surrounding said hemostatic material and adapted to move slidably over said elongate member; said exterior surface of said elongate member having a channel portion that retains said hemostatic material, and said channel portion extending laterally around the outer circumference of said exterior surface and configured to apply pressure along the interior of said wall of said internal organ at the site of hemostatic material retention after said covering is removed; a synthetic resin on said channel portion to facilitate contact between said hemostatic material and bodily tissue of said internal organ when said covering is removed; and said elongate member configured achieve hemostasis by the simultaneous application of said hemostatic material and said pressure exerted by said exterior surface of said elongate member while said surgical implements remain in said interior lumen for performing surgery on said bodily organ.
6 . The device of claim 5 , further comprising a radio-opaque marker on said elongate member for confirming the proper placement of said elongate member inside said bodily organ.
7 . The device of claim 5 further comprising a midpoint located on said exterior surface between said distal end and said proximal end, said channel portion extending from said distal end to at least said midpoint.
8 . The device of claim 5 wherein said hemostatic material is coated on said exterior surface.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
