Abstract

A compressor can have one or more of a suction fitting with integral louvers and a screen, a motor cap with a plurality of holes in the top surface of the motor cap to permit refrigerant to enter a suction plenum, a filter positioned over the plurality of holes in the motor cap, a filter for the cage bearing and a braze ring installed in one or more of the compressor fittings.

         1 . A compressor comprising:
 a shell having an enclosed space;   a compression mechanism positioned within the enclosed space of the shell;   a motor positioned within the enclosed space of the shell and connected to the compression mechanism by a shaft to power the compression mechanism;   a bearing engaged with an end of the shaft, the bearing being positioned in an oil sump of the compressor; and   a filter positioned in the oil sump and connected to the compression mechanism, the filter being positioned over the bearing to enclose the bearing and prevent debris in the oil sump from entering the bearing.
