Abstract
The present invention relates to isolated and/or purified rat apoptosis-specific eucaryotic initiation Factor-5A (eIF-5A) and deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS) nucleic acids and polypeptides. The present invention also relates to methods of modulating apoptosis using apoptosis-specific eIF-5A and DHS, and antisense oligonucleotides and expression vectors of apoptosis-specific and DHS useful in such methods.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 63 . (canceled)
64 . A method of inhibiting apoptosis in a cell comprising administering to the cell an oligonucleotide that is antisense to the 3′-UTR of a mammalian nucleic acid molecule encoding apoptosis-specific eIF-5A, wherein the antisense oligonucleotide inhibits apoptosis-specific eIF-5A expression.
65 . The method of claim 64 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule comprises SEQ ID NO:3.
66 . The method of claim 64 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule consists of SEQ ID NO:3.
67 . The method of claim 64 , wherein the antisense oligonucleotide inhibits apoptosis-specific eIF-5A function, thereby inhibiting apoptosis.
68 . The method of claim 64 , wherein the cell is comprised within an animal.
69 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the antisense oligonucleotide is administered to the animal.
70 . An apoptosis inhibiting agent comprising an antisense oligonucleotide against the 3′-UTR of a mammalian nucleic acid molecule encoding apoptosis-specific eIF-5A, wherein the antisense oligonucleotide inhibits apoptosis-specific eIF-5A expression.
71 . The agent of claim 70 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule comprises SEQ ID NO:3.
72 . The agent of claim 70 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule consists of SEQ ID NO:3.
73 . A method of inhibiting apoptosis in a cell comprising administering to the cell an agent that inhibits the activity of deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS).
74 . The method of claim 73 , wherein the agent is an oligonucleotide that is antisense to a mammalian nucleic acid molecule encoding apoptosis-specific DHS.
75 . The method of claim 73 , wherein the agent is a ribozyme that inhibits the expression of endogenous mammalian apoptosis-specific DHS.Cited by (0)
