Abstract

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for processing gift transactions, related to retaining a social and gratitude-based experience surrounding giving and receiving gifts, monitoring gift recipients on-premises at merchants and providing gift-related notifications, and managing funds in a gift that the recipient does not redeem. A system configured to practice a first method receives an object associated with a gift, receives a tag associated with the object, and transmits the object to the giver. A system configured to practice a second example method uses face identification at the merchant to identify a recipient of a gift. The system can transmit a reminder to the recipient regarding the gift. In a third example method, the system creates a gift and notifies the recipient of the gift. If the recipient never redeems the gift, then the giver is not charged for the gift and no transaction occurs.

 receiving, at a gift processing application, a registration of a giver purchasing account associated with a giver and a recipient purchasing account associated with a recipient; receiving an object associated with a gift; transmitting, via a processor of a computer device, a notice associated with the gift to a recipient device associated with the recipient, the notice being linked to the recipient purchasing account; monitoring, via a processor of a computer device, purchases using the recipient payment account for a qualified purchase of the gift according to the notice; receiving a tag associated with the object, wherein the tag comprises one of a date, a time, a location, a manually entered tag from the recipient, a manually entered tag from the giver, a description of the gift, and a message; and transmitting, via a processor a computer device, the object to one of the giver and the recipient.

         2 . (canceled)

         3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the object is one of an image and a video.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, after the recipient receives the gift:
 receiving an identification of an amount of money and a merchant associated with the object; and presenting the amount of money and the merchant information to the giver such that the giver can make a purchase at the merchant using the giver payment account and have the amount of money applied to the purchase.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, for a policy associated with detecting redemption of the gift, a processing fee and an entity to receive the processing fee; and upon receiving an indication that a qualifying purchase has been made according to the policy, paying the processing fee to the entity from at least one of a gift amount, the giver payment account, the recipient payment account, or a merchant at which the qualifying purchase was made.

         6 .- 10 . (canceled)

         11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving, via a face identification system and at a merchant location, an identification of the recipient of the gift which is redeemable at the merchant using the recipient payment account; and transmitting a reminder to the recipient device that the recipient has the gift.

         12 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting an additional offer from the merchant which is in addition to the gift.

         13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the additional offer from the merchant is conditional upon one of the recipient making a redeeming purchase in a period of time and the recipient making a redeeming purchase prior to leaving the merchant location.

         14 . (canceled)

         15 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining whether the recipient has made the qualifying purchase using the recipient payment account according to the notice; and after the qualifying purchase has occurred, applying an amount of money.

         16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
 determining a remainder amount of money after initiating the transfer to pay for the gift; withdrawing the remainder amount of money from the giver payment account; and transferring the remainder amount of money to a holding account separate from the recipient payment account.

         17 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
 determining a remainder amount of money after initiating the transfer to pay for the gift; and placing a hold on the remainder amount of money in the giver payment account pending an additional qualifying purchase triggering redemption of the remainder amount of money according to the policy.

         19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the notification of the non-qualifying purchase further comprises an indication of a reason why the non-qualifying purchase does not satisfy the notice.

         20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the notification of the non-qualifying purchase further comprises at least one of a recommendation of how to modify the non-qualifying purchase to satisfy the notice, or a request for authorization to modify the notice so the non-qualifying purchase would satisfy the notice.

         21 . A system comprising:
 a processor; and a computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
 receiving, at a gift processing application, a registration of a giver purchasing account associated with a giver and a recipient purchasing account associated with a recipient;
 receiving an object associated with a gift;
 transmitting, via a processor of a computer device, a notice associated with the gift to a recipient device associated with the recipient, the notice being linked to the recipient purchasing account;
 monitoring, via a processor of a computer device, purchases using the recipient payment account for a qualified purchase of the gift according to the notice;
 receiving a tag associated with the object, wherein the tag comprises one of a date, a time, a location, a manually entered tag from the recipient, a manually entered tag from the giver, a description of the gift, and a message; and
 transmitting the object to one of the giver and the recipient.

         22 . A computer-readable storage device storing instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
 receiving, at a gift processing application, a registration of a giver purchasing account associated with a giver and a recipient purchasing account associated with a recipient; receiving an object associated with a gift; transmitting, via a processor of a computer device, a notice associated with the gift to a recipient device associated with the recipient, the notice being linked to the recipient purchasing account; monitoring, via a processor of a computer device, purchases using the recipient payment account for a qualified purchase of the gift according to the notice; receiving a tag associated with the object, wherein the tag comprises one of a date, a time, a location, a manually entered tag from the recipient, a manually entered tag from the giver, a description of the gift, and a message; and transmitting the object to one of the giver and the recipient.
