Abstract

A method for targeted advertising is disclosed. The method includes accessing at least one piece of demographic information associated with a user of a portable device, selecting an advertisement to be delivered to the user based at least in part on the demographic information, and initiating communication of a version of the advertisement configured for presentation at the portable device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A system comprising:
a handheld device including a display, a non-volatile memory, and a processing device operable to execute instructions stored in the non-volatile memory; and a collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the handheld device to request a list of network addresses for a plurality of segments of an available media, to request delivery of one of the segments of the plurality of segments on a wireless communications network, and to request delivery of a different segment of the plurality of segments on a different wireless communications network.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the available media is a video and the system outputs the available media to the display.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the available media is selected from a group consisting of a stored media and a near real time broadcasted media.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a cellular network.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a different local network.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the segment is configured to be output at the handheld device at or near a rate, and the different segment is configured to be output at the handheld device at or near a different rate.

7 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a browser saved locally at the handheld device and configured to facilitate accessing a web page.

         8 . A method comprising:
requesting, from a storage medium, a list of network addresses for a plurality of segments of an available media; requesting delivery of one of the segments of the plurality of segments such that at least a portion of the delivery occurs via a wireless communications network; and requesting delivery of a different segment of the plurality of segments such that at least a portion of the different segment delivery occurs via a different wireless communications network.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the available media is a video and a system outputs the available media to a display of the system.

10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the available media is selected from a group consisting of a stored media and a near real time broadcasted media.

11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a cellular network.

12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a different local network.

13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the segment is configured to be output at a system at or near a rate, and the different segment is configured to be output at the system at or near a different rate.

         14 . A cellular telephone comprising:
a display; a non-volatile memory; a processing device operable to execute instructions stored in the non-volatile memory; and a collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the processing device to request a list of network addresses for a plurality of segments of an available media, to request delivery of one of the segments of the plurality of segments on a wireless communications network, and to request delivery of a different segment of the plurality of segments on a different wireless communications network.

15 . The cellular telephone of claim 14 , wherein the available media is selected from a group consisting of a stored media and a near real time broadcasted media.

16 . The cellular telephone of claim 14 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a cellular network.

17 . The cellular telephone of claim 14 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a different local network.

18 . The cellular telephone of claim 14 , wherein the wireless communications network is a local network and the different wireless communications network is a different local network.

19 . The cellular telephone of claim 14 , further comprising a browser saved locally at the cellular telephone and configured to facilitate accessing a web page.
