Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatus for handling and/or authorizing payment requests by a consumer for a transaction are provided. Payment information can be sent directly from a consumer to a non-merchant, thereby allowing no new entities to obtain the payment information. Transaction identifiers can be used to facilitate communications among the entities. The payment information can be sent to the non-merchant via a merchant application with a submit payment button directed to the non-merchant so little or no deviations from standard practices are required.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 19 . (canceled)

20 . A method of conducting a transaction, the method comprising:
receiving, by a server computer and from an access device, a payment identifier, wherein the access device interacts with a merchant server; creating, by the server computer, an artificial PAN; transmitting, by the server computer, the artificial PAN to the merchant server; receiving an authorization request message from the merchant server comprising the artificial PAN; determining an account identifier from the artificial PAN; forwarding the authorization request message comprising the account identifier to an issuer of the account identifier; receiving an authorization response message from the issuer; and forwarding the authorization response message to the merchant server.

21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein a portion of the account identifier is a Bank Identification Number (BIN) that is associated with the issuer.

22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the server computer is part of a payment processing network.

23 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the access device is used by a consumer, and the access device is in a retail store associated with a merchant.

24 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the artificial PAN has the same number of characters as the account identifier, wherein the account identifier is an actual PAN.

25 . The method of claim 20 further comprising:
initiating, by the server computer, a challenge process with respect to a consumer associated with the account identifier.

26 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the artificial PAN is valid for a limited time.

27 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the artificial PAN has a prefix that signifies that the artificial PAN is not a real account number.

28 . The method of claim 20 , further comprising:
transmitting, by the merchant server to the access device, a receipt for the transaction.

29 . The method of claim 20 wherein the account identifier is associated with a credit card.

30 . A system for conducting a transaction, the system comprising:
a server comprising one or more processors and one or more memory devices containing instructions for directing the one or more processors to: receive, from an access device, a payment identifier, wherein the access device interacts with a merchant server; create an artificial PAN; transmit the artificial PAN to the merchant server; receive an authorization request message from the merchant server comprising the artificial PAN; determine an account identifier from the artificial PAN; forward the authorization request message comprising the account identifier to an issuer of the account identifier; receive an authorization response message from the issuer; and forward the authorization response message to the merchant server.

31 . The system of claim 30 , wherein a portion of the account identifier is a Bank Identification Number (BIN) that is associated with the issuer.

32 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the server is part of a payment processing network.

33 . The system of claim 30 , further comprising the access device, wherein the access device is in a retail store associated with a merchant.

34 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the artificial PAN has the same number of characters as the account identifier, wherein the account identifier is an actual PAN.

35 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the instructions are further for directing the one or more processors to:
initiate a challenge process with respect to a consumer associated with the account identifier.

36 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the artificial PAN is valid for a limited time.

37 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the artificial PAN has a prefix that signifies that the artificial PAN is not a real account number.

38 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the instructions are further for directing the one or more processors to:
transmit, by the merchant server to the access device, a receipt for the transaction.

39 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the account identifier is associated with a credit card.
