Abstract

A method for targeted advertising is disclosed. The method includes accessing at least one piece of demographic information associated with a user of a portable device, selecting an advertisement to be delivered to the user based at least in part on the demographic information, and initiating communication of a version of the advertisement configured for presentation at the portable device.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the partial representation of the menu comprises at least two soft buttons.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display device is a touch screen display and the touch screen display is the user interface mechanism.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interface mechanism comprises a hands-free interface system.

. The system of claim 1 , further comprising an automobile in which the audio system is located.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the non-circular portable device interface is configured to directly contact a portion of the portable electronic device without an intervening cable.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the audio system further comprises a non-volatile memory system that stores the firmware.

. The system of claim 7 , wherein the firmware is upgradeable.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the audio system comprises a digital receiver configured to receive in-band on-channel transmissions and an RF transceiver configured to facilitate localized communications.

. The system of claim 1 , wherein the non-circular portable device interface is configured to provide access to a bus and further configured to removably couple with a cable that has a first terminal end configured for coupling with the non-circular portable device interface and a second terminal end configured for coupling with the portable electronic device.

. The system of claim 10 , further comprising: the cable and the portable electronic device.

. A media system comprising:
an entertainment system that includes a display device, a user interface mechanism, a communication interface component that includes a wireless transceiver, a non-volatile memory system, and a non-circular portable device interface component that allows for communication of data and power; the communication interface component operable to provide at least a portion of a link between the entertainment system and a portable electronic device that has a memory, a processor, a display, and software saved at the portable electronic device, the software configured to direct the portable electronic device to save a media file in the memory, to save a name in the memory, to associate the media file with the name, to include the name in a menu of available content, and to communicate a collection of interface information to the entertainment system; the entertainment system configured to utilize the collection of interface information: (1) to facilitate presentation of at least a partial representation of the menu on the display device; (2) to allow a user to navigate through a plurality of names associated with respective media files saved in the memory of the portable electronic device; (3) to recognize an interaction with the user interface mechanism as a selection of a menu item presented on the display device, wherein the menu item includes at least a partial representation of the name; and (4) after recognizing the interaction, to request a streaming of additional information from the portable electronic device to facilitate an outputting by the entertainment system of a representation of the media file associated with the name while the media file remains stored on the portable electronic device, wherein the entertainment system is configured to receive the collection of interface information and to present the partial representation of the menu on the display device by software embedded in the non-volatile memory system as firmware.

. The system of claim 12 , wherein the partial representation of the menu comprises at least two soft buttons.

. The system of claim 12 , wherein the display device is a touch screen display and the touch screen display is the user interface mechanism.

. The system of claim 12 , further comprising an automobile in which the entertainment system is located.
