Method and system for improved e-commerce shopping

Abstract

An e-commerce system and method for presenting product information to a viewer, where a video feed and product information associated with a product that relates to the content in the video feed can be displayed or presented to the viewer on one or more remote display devices.

1 . An e-commerce system for presenting product information to a viewer, the e-commerce system comprising:
 a product information database configured to store product information relating to a plurality of products;   a processor configured to identify at least one product of the plurality of products that relates to content of a video feed being displayed on a first remote display device of the viewer; and   a server configured to transmit a data feed including the product information relating to the identified at least one product to a second remote display device of the viewer, such that the product information is presented on the second remote display device in conjunction with the video feed being displayed on the first remote display device,   wherein the video feed and the data feed originate from different sources.   
     
     
         2 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the video feed and the product information are displayed on the first and second remote display devices, respectively, at the same time. 
     
     
         3 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the video feed and the data feed are transmitted to the first and second remote display devices, respectively, at the same time. 
     
     
         4 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the server is further configured to transmit the data feed to the first remote display device, such that the product information is presented on the first remote display device in conjunction with the video feed being displayed on the first remote display device. 
     
     
         5 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the first remote display device is a television and the second remote display device is a computing device. 
     
     
         6 . The e-commerce system of  claim 5 , wherein the computing device is one of a smart-phone, a handheld digital assistant, a blackberry, and a computer. 
     
     
         7 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the data feed includes programming instructions that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the second remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         8 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 ,
 wherein the identified at least one product is in a product category, and   wherein the data feed includes programming instructions that cause a recommendation of a different product in the product category to be displayed on the second remote display device.   
     
     
         9 . The e-commerce system of  claim 8 , wherein the data feed includes further programming instructions that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the second remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the recommended different product. 
     
     
         10 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the data feed includes programming instructions that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the second remote display device, the at least one product link being associated with a prerecorded video segment relating to the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         11 . The e-commerce system of  claim 10 , wherein, in response to the viewer selecting the at least one product link, the programming instructions further cause the prerecorded video segment to be displayed on the second remote display device. 
     
     
         12 . The e-commerce system of  claim 1 , wherein the video feed is at least one of a live video feed and a video on demand. 
     
     
         13 . An e-commerce system for presenting product information to a viewer, the e-commerce system comprising:
 a product information database configured to store product information relating to a plurality of products;   a processor configured to identify at least one product of the plurality of products that relates to content of a video feed being displayed on a remote display device of the viewer; and   a server configured to transmit a data feed including the product information relating to the identified at least one product to the remote display device, such that the product information is presented on the remote display device in conjunction with the video feed,   wherein the video feed and the data feed originate from different sources.   
     
     
         14 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the video feed and the product information are displayed on the remote display device at the same time. 
     
     
         15 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the video feed and the data feed are transmitted to the remote display device at the same time. 
     
     
         16 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the remote display device is one of a television coupled to a set-top box, a television coupled to an external processor, or a television having an internal processor. 
     
     
         17 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the server is further configured to transmit the data feed to a different remote display device of the viewer, such that the product information is presented on the different remote display device in conjunction with the video feed being displayed on the remote display device. 
     
     
         18 . The e-commerce system of  claim 17 , wherein the different remote display device is one of a smart-phone, a handheld digital assistant, a blackberry, and a computer. 
     
     
         19 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the data feed includes programming instructions that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         20 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 ,
 wherein the identified at least one product is in a product category, and   wherein the data feed includes programming instructions that cause a recommendation of a different product in the product category to be displayed on the remote display device.   
     
     
         21 . The e-commerce system of  claim 20 , wherein the data feed includes further programming instructions that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the recommended different product. 
     
     
         22 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the data feed includes programming instructions that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the remote display device, the at least one product link being associated with a prerecorded video segment relating to the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         23 . The e-commerce system of  claim 22 , wherein, in response to the viewer selecting the at least one product link, the programming instructions further cause the prerecorded video segment to be displayed on the remote display device. 
     
     
         24 . The e-commerce system of  claim 13 , wherein the video feed is at least one of a live video feed and a video on demand. 
     
     
         25 . An e-commerce method for presenting product information to a viewer, the e-commerce method comprising:
 storing, in a product information database, product information relating to a plurality of products;   identifying, by a processor, at least one product of the plurality of products that relates to content of a video feed being displayed on a first remote display device of the viewer; and   transmitting, by a server, a data feed including the product information relating to the identified at least one product to a second remote display device of the viewer, such that the product information is presented on the second remote display device in conjunction with the video feed being displayed on the first remote display device,   wherein the video feed and the data feed originate from different sources.   
     
     
         26 . The e-commerce method of  claim 25 , further comprising:
 displaying the video feed on the first remote display device; and   displaying the product information on the second remote display device.   
     
     
         27 . The e-commerce method of  claim 25 , further comprising transmitting programming instructions in the data feed to the second remote display device that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the second remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         28 . The e-commerce method of  claim 25 , further comprising transmitting programming instructions in the data feed to the second remote display device that cause a recommendation of a different product related to the at least one product to be displayed on the second remote display device. 
     
     
         29 . The e-commerce method of  claim 28 , further comprising transmitting further programming instructions in the data feed that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the second remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the different product. 
     
     
         30 . The e-commerce method of  claim 25 , further comprising transmitting programming instructions in the data feed to the second remote display device that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the second remote display device, the at least one product link being associated with a prerecorded video segment relating to the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         31 . The e-commerce method of  claim 30 , further comprising transmitting further programming instructions in the data feed, in response to the viewer selecting the at least one product link, that cause the prerecorded video segment to be displayed on the second remote display device. 
     
     
         32 . The e-commerce method of  claim 25 , further comprising transmitting the data feed to the first remote display device, such that the product information is presented on the first remote display device in conjunction with the video feed being displayed on the first remote display device. 
     
     
         33 . An e-commerce method for presenting product information to a viewer, the e-commerce method comprising:
 storing, in a product information database, product information relating to a plurality of products;   identifying, by a processor, at least one product of the plurality of products that relates to content of a video feed being displayed on a remote display device of the viewer; and   transmitting, by a server, a data feed including the product information relating to the identified at least one product to the remote display device, such that the product information is presented on the remote display device in conjunction with the video feed,   wherein the video feed and the data feed originate from different sources.   
     
     
         34 . The e-commerce method of  claim 33 , further comprising displaying the video feed and the product information on the remote display device. 
     
     
         35 . The e-commerce method of  claim 33 , further comprising transmitting programming instructions in the data feed to the remote display device that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         36 . The e-commerce method of  claim 33 , further comprising transmitting programming instructions in the data feed to the remote display device that cause a recommendation of a different product related to the at least one product to be displayed on the remote display device. 
     
     
         37 . The e-commerce method of  claim 36 , further comprising transmitting further programming instructions in the data feed that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the remote display device, the at least one product link being selectable by the viewer to purchase the different product. 
     
     
         38 . The e-commerce method of  claim 33 , further comprising transmitting programming instructions in the data feed to the remote display device that cause at least one product link to be displayed on the remote display device, the at least one product link being associated with a prerecorded video segment relating to the identified at least one product. 
     
     
         39 . The e-commerce method of  claim 38 , further comprising transmitting further programming instructions in the data feed, in response to the viewer selecting the at least one product link, that cause the prerecorded video segment to be displayed on the remote display device. 
     
     
         40 . The e-commerce method of  claim 33 , further comprising transmitting the data feed to a different remote display device of the viewer, such that the product information is presented on the different remote display device in conjunction with the video feed being displayed on the remote display device.
