Consumption profile for mobile media

Abstract

In embodiments, the present invention provides a method and system for delivery of content on a mobile media platform, providing a consumption profile, and delivering content to a mobile device, wherein content delivery is based at least in part on the consumption profile. Further, in embodiments, the present invention provides a consumption profile for a mobile media platform comprising a device profile, a user profile, a network profile, an encoding profile, and a content profile.

         101 . A method of managing delivery of content, comprising:
 configuring a content item for delivery based on a consumption profile for the content item comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item;   initiating delivery of the configured content item over a network;   receiving an indication of an action for pausing the delivery; and   pausing delivery of the configured content item based on the received indication and the consumption profile for the content item.   
     
     
         102 . The method of  claim 101 , wherein pause markers are maintained as part of the consumption profile. 
     
     
         103 . The method of  claim 101 , wherein the pausing delivery of the configured content item is based on location-related rules present in the consumption profile.

         111 . The method of  claim 110 , wherein the device related action includes at least one of battery power being low, a unit turning off due to battery power, a loss of signal, and a pause timeout exceeding a device determined threshold. 
     
     
         112 . The method of  claim 101 , wherein the pausing delivery of the configured content item occurs after a trial duration. 
     
     
         113 . The method of  claim 112 , further comprising presenting a user with options for resuming the content. 
     
     
         114 . The method of  claim 113 , wherein the options include at least one of submitting a form of payment, agreeing to perform an action, providing demographic information, and agreeing to receive additional content. 
     
     
         115 . The method of  claim 101 , wherein the pausing delivery of the configured content item occurs when a credit account has insufficient funds to continue playback. 
     
     
         116 . The method of  claim 115 , wherein the pausing delivery of the configured content item includes a location based factor. 
     
     
         117 . The method of  claim 116 , wherein the location based factor is associated with at least one of a secure zone, a blackout area, and a proximity of a playback device for the configured content item to other devices. 
     
     
         118 . The method of  claim 101 , wherein the pausing delivery of the configured content item facilitates managing content sourcing. 
     
     
         119 . The method of  claim 118 , wherein managing content sourcing includes pausing a streaming configured content item from a first source then resuming from a second source different than the first source. 
     
     
         120 . A method of managing delivery of content, comprising:
 receiving an indication of an action for resuming delivery of a content item that is configured based on a consumption profile of the content item, wherein the content item was previously paused during delivery over a network;   accessing the consumption profile that includes attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item; and   resuming delivery of the configured content item based on the received indication and at least one of the attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item accessed in the consumption profile for the content item.   
     
     
         121 . The method of  claim 120 , wherein resuming delivery of the configured content item is based on location-related rules present in the consumption profile for the content item. 
     
     
         122 . A method of managing delivery of content, comprising:
 configuring a content item for delivery based on a consumption profile for the content item comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item;   initiating delivery of the configured content item over a network;   receiving an indication of an action for pausing the delivery;   pausing delivery of the configured content item based on the received indication and the consumption profile for the content item;   receiving an indication of an action for resuming delivery of the configured content item;   resuming delivery of the configured content item based on the receiving the indication of the action for resuming delivery of the configured content item and the consumption profile for the configured content item.   
     
     
         123 . The method of  claim 122 , wherein the consumption profile is affected by pausing delivery and resuming delivery of the configured content. 
     
     
         124 . The method of  claim 122 , wherein a position at which pausing delivery of the configured content item occurs is calculated based on an algorithm for placement of an advertisement. 
     
     
         125 . The method of  claim 124 , wherein the algorithm identifies a change of scene in the configured content item. 
     
     
         126 . The method of  claim 125 , wherein image analysis determines the change of scene.
