System and method for using a digital wallet

Abstract

A system and method for using a digital wallet are provided. A request is received from a wallet application on a mobile device of a first user. The request indicates a transfer of a value to a second user. The value is associated with a source selected from a plurality of sources associated with a user account of the first user. The plurality of sources is associated with monetary values and non-monetary values. The value indicated in the request is transferred. The source of the value is updated to reflect the transfer of the value to the second user.

1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a networked system, a request from a wallet application on a mobile device of a first user, the request indicating a transfer of a value to a second user, the value associated with a source selected from a plurality of sources associated with a user account of the first user, the plurality of sources associated with monetary values and non-monetary values;   causing the transfer of the value indicated in the request; and   causing an update, by a hardware processor, to the source of the value to reflect the transfer of the value to the second user.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a voucher or points. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a discount. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a coupon. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a certificate. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise at least one of frequent flier miles, a credit, a debit, or barter points. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 establishing a connection with the mobile device via the wallet application;   receiving a user identifier associated with the user account of the first user; and   providing access to information including amounts of the plurality of values associated with the user account based on the user identifier.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the causing the transfer comprises exchanging the value in a monetary value into a non-monetary value. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising receiving a selection of the source of the value from which to transfer the value to the second user. 
     
     
         10 . A machine-readable medium having no transitory signals and storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a request from a wallet application on a mobile device of a first user, the request indicating a transfer of a value to a second user, the value associated with a source selected from a plurality of sources associated with a user account of the first user, the plurality of sources associated with monetary values and non-monetary values;   causing the transfer of the value indicated in the request; and   causing an update to the source of the value to reflect the transfer of the value to the second user.   
     
     
         11 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a voucher or points. 
     
     
         12 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a discount. 
     
     
         13 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a coupon. 
     
     
         14 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise a certificate. 
     
     
         15 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the non-monetary values comprise at least one of frequent flier miles, a credit, a debit, or barter points. 
     
     
         16 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 establishing a connection with the mobile device via the wallet application;   receiving a user identifier associated with the user account of the first user; and   providing access to information including amounts of the plurality of values associated with the user account based on the user identifier.   
     
     
         17 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the causing the transfer comprises exchanging the value in a monetary value into a non-monetary value. 
     
     
         18 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 10 , further comprising receiving a selection of the source of the value from which to transfer the value to the second user. 
     
     
         19 . A system comprising:
 one or more servers configured to:
 receive a request from a wallet application on a mobile device of a first user, the request indicating a transfer of a value to a second user, the value associated with a source selected from a plurality of sources associated with a user account of the first user, the plurality of sources associated with monetary values and non-monetary values; 
 cause the transfer of the value indicated in the request; and 
 cause an update to the source of the value to reflect the transfer of the value to the second user. 
   
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 19 , wherein the one or more servers are further to:
 establish a connection with the mobile device via the wallet application;   receive a user identifier associated with the user account of the first user; and   provide access to information including amounts of the plurality of values associated with the user account based on the user identifier.
