Systems for Patient Support, Monitoring and Treatment
Abstract
A patient support system, such as a bed, stretcher, wheelchair or the like, has an electronic control system and a user interface. The electronic control system and the user interface control bed functions, such as articulation of the head, seat, and leg sections of the bed deck, and control and/or monitor the operation of medical equipment, such as heart rate monitors, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, sequential compression therapy devices, chest wall oscillation devices, respiratory therapy devices, blood oxygen monitors, and the like. In some embodiments, the electronic control system and user interface communicate with patient personal digital devices, such as audio players, computers, and phones. The user interface is on the headboard, footboard, and/or on a siderail of the bed in some embodiments.

21 . A hospital bed comprising
a frame; physiological parameter monitoring equipment carried by the frame; hospital bed electronics carried by the frame and coupled to the physiological parameter monitoring equipment, the hospital bed electronics monitoring hospital bed functions; and at least one graphical display coupled to the frame and that simultaneously displays information pertaining to the physiological parameter monitoring equipment and information pertaining to a status of at least one of the hospital bed functions.
22 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein one of the hospital bed functions monitored by the bed electronics includes monitoring a brake of the hospital bed.
23 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein one of the hospital bed functions monitored by the bed electronics includes monitoring a position of a siderail of the hospital bed.
24 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the at least one graphical display is also used to control actuators of the hospital bed.
25 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , further comprising user inputs carried by the frame and usable to command the hospital bed electronics regarding control of the operation of the physiological monitoring equipment and the hospital bed functions.
26 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the hospital bed electronics communicates via wireless signals with at least one computer device that is spaced from the hospital bed.
27 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the hospital bed electronics includes a patient audio port to which a patient attaches a personal audio player.
28 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the hospital bed electronics is communicatively coupled via a hospital network to a medical records system and further comprising a keyboard coupled to the hospital bed electronics for entering patient vital signs information into a patient medical record via the hospital bed electronics.
29 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the frame includes a siderail and the at least one graphical display comprises a first graphical display coupled to the siderail and a second graphical display coupled to the siderail.
30 . The hospital bed of claim 29 , wherein the first graphical display displays the information pertaining to the physiological parameter monitoring equipment and the second graphical display displays information pertaining to the status of at least one of the hospital bed functions.
31 . The hospital bed of claim 30 , wherein the second graphical display simultaneously displays information pertaining to the status of at least two of the hospital bed functions.
32 . The hospital bed of claim 29 , further comprising a patient treatment device coupled to the hospital bed electronics and wherein the at least one graphical display comprises a third graphical display that displays information pertaining to the patient treatment device.
33 . The hospital bed of claim 32 , wherein the patient treatment device comprises a pump used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
34 . The hospital bed of claim 29 , further comprising an endboard coupled to the frame and wherein the at least one graphical display comprises a third graphical display coupled to the endboard.
35 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the physiological parameter monitoring equipment comprises electrodes attachable to a patient.
36 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , further comprising a respiratory therapy device coupled to the hospital bed electronics.
37 . The hospital bed of claim 36 , wherein the respiratory therapy device comprises a pump and a garment worn by a patient for high frequency chest wall oscillation therapy.
38 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the physiological parameter monitoring equipment comprises a blood pressure monitor.
39 . The hospital bed of claim 21 , wherein the physiological parameter monitoring equipment comprises a heart monitor.
