Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 31 . (canceled)

         32 . A roofing shingle comprising:
a substrate having a headlap portion and a tab portion; and reinforcement material secured to the headlap portion, wherein the reinforcement material is formed from woven material; wherein the woven reinforcement material is formed from fabric yarns within the range of from about 100 denier to about 200 denier, and wherein the reinforcement material has a density within the range of from about 65 yarns per inch to about 90 yarns per inch in a warp direction and within the range of from about 35 yarns per inch to about 55 yarns per inch in a cross-machine direction.

33 . The roofing shingle according to claim 32 , wherein the reinforcement material has a width within the range of from about 0.5 inch to about 2.0 inch.

34 . The roofing shingle according to claim 32 , wherein the reinforcement material has a weight within the range of from about 1.5 ounces/yard 2 to about 4.5 ounces/yard 2 .

35 . The roofing shingle according to claim 32 , wherein the reinforcement material has a thickness within the range of from about 3 mils to about 20 mils.

36 . The roofing shingle according to claim 32 , wherein the reinforcement material has an air permeability within the range of from about 160 cm 3 /s/cm 2 to about 260 cm 3 /s/cm 2 .

37 . The roofing shingle according to claim 32 , wherein the reinforcement material is formed from polyester.

38 . The roofing shingle according to claim 32 , further comprising:
an overlay sheet defining the substrate; and an underlay sheet secured to the overlay sheet such that a region of the underlay sheet overlaps a region of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet, thereby defining a two-layer portion and a single-layer portion of the roofing shingle.

         39 .- 43 . (canceled)

         44 . A roofing shingle comprising:
a substrate having a headlap portion and a tab portion; and reinforcement material secured to the headlap portion, wherein the reinforcement material is formed from woven material; wherein the reinforcement material has a air permeability within the range of from about 160 cm 3 /s/cm 2 to about 260 cm 3 /s/cm 2 .

45 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , wherein the reinforcement material has a width within the range of from about 0.5 inch to about 2.0 inch.

46 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , wherein the reinforcement material has an weight within the range of from about 1.5 ounces/yard 2 to about 4.5 ounces/yard 2 .

47 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , wherein the reinforcement material has a thickness within the range of from about 3 mils to about 20 mils.

48 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , wherein the woven reinforcement material is formed from fabric yarns within the range of from about 100 denier to about 200 denier.

49 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , wherein the reinforcement material has a density within the range of from about 65 yarns per inch to about 90 yarns per inch in a warp direction and within the range of from about 35 yarns per inch to about 55 yarns per inch in a cross-machine direction.

50 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , wherein the reinforcement material is formed from polyester.

51 . The roofing shingle according to claim 44 , further comprising:
an overlay sheet defining the substrate; and an underlay sheet secured to the overlay sheet such that a region of the underlay sheet overlaps a region of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet, thereby defining a two-layer portion and a single-layer portion of the roofing shingle.

         52 .- 57 . (canceled)

58 . The roofing shingle according to claim 31 , wherein the woven reinforcement material comprises polyester, and has a width within the range of from about 0.5 inch to about 2.0 inch, a weight within the range of from about 1.5 ounces/yard 2 to about 4.5 ounces/yard 2 , a thickness within the range of from about 3 mils to about 20 mils, and an air permeability within the range of from about 160 cm 3 /s/cm 2 to about 260 cm 3 /s/cm 2 .

         59 . A roofing shingle comprising:
a substrate having a headlap portion and a tab portion; and reinforcement material secured to the headlap portion, wherein the reinforcement material is formed from nonwoven material comprising about 10 percent glass fiber and about 90 percent bi-component fiber.

60 . The roofing shingle according to claim 59 , wherein the reinforcement material has a basis weight with the range of from about 0.5 lbs/csf to about 1.5 lbs/csf.
