Abstract

The present invention provides formulas of elemental compositions encompassing acetate salts of calcium, magnesium and zinc along with vitamin D 3 . The acetate salts could be extracted from natural sources such as pearls, coral, and oyster or compounded using synthetic materials. The dosage and ratio of calcium to magnesium was estimated using in vitro and in vivo estimations. The dosage for promoting bone health and alleviation of osteoporosis is about a quarter to a third of the conventional dose.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 21 . (canceled)

22 . A method of preparing tablets comprising calcium acetate, magnesium acetate, zinc acetate and vitamin D 3 , comprising the steps of:
 (i) blending a calcium composition comprising calcium acetate, magnesium acetate, and zinc acetate with a composition comprising vitamin D 3 ; (ii) blending the composition obtained from (i) one or more times with another calcium composition comprising calcium acetate, magnesium acetate, and zinc acetate, thereby obtaining a final blend; and (iii) compressing the final blend to obtain tablets comprising calcium acetate, magnesium acetate, zinc acetate and vitamin D 3 , wherein said tablets comprise more bioavailable calcium per unit weight than calcium carbonate or calcium citrate.

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the calcium composition comprises at least 14 percent by weight of calcium acetate, at least 7 percent by weight of magnesium acetate, and at least 0.7 percent by weight of zinc acetate.

         24 . A tablet produced by the method of claim 22 .

25 . The tablet of claim 24 , wherein said tablet comprises more bioavailable calcium per unit weight than calcium carbonate or calcium citrate.

26 . The tablet of claim 24 , wherein said tablet comprises at least 11 percent by weight of calcium in the form of calcium acetate, at least 5 percent by weight of magnesium in the form of magnesium acetate, and at least 0.5 percent by weight of zinc in the form of zinc acetate, wherein said tablet comprises more bioavailable calcium per unit weight than calcium carbonate or calcium citrate.

27 . The tablet of claim 24 , wherein said tablet comprises at least 7 percent by weight of calcium in the form of calcium acetate, at least 7 percent by weight of magnesium in the form of magnesium acetate, and at least 0.3 percent by weight of zinc in the form of zinc acetate, wherein said tablet comprises more bioavailable calcium per unit weight than calcium carbonate or calcium citrate.

         28 . The tablet of claim 24 , further comprising at least 400 IU of vitamin D 3 .

29 . The tablet of claim 24 , wherein the tablet comprises a daily dose of 5-40 mg of zinc, or a daily dose of 400 to 3000 IU of vitamin D 3 .

30 . The tablet of claim 24 , wherein the tablet comprises a daily dose of 50 to 500 mg of calcium and 25 to 500 mg of magnesium.

31 . The tablet of claim 24 , wherein the tablet comprises 400 to 1200 IU of vitamin D 3 per 220 mg of calcium.

32 . A method for alleviating or treating symptoms of osteoporosis, or for increasing bone mineral density in humans or animals, comprising the step of administering the tablet of claim 24 to said humans or animals.

33 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the tablet is administered in combination with a fruit juice.

34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the fruit juice is orange juice, grape juice or carrot juice.
