Method for managing treatment of a health condition using subjective symptom data
Abstract
A method for managing treatment of a particular health condition afflicting a patient includes programming a processor with a health management application program that prompts a user for entry of health condition data, including a patient physiological data, subjective patient health condition data, and medication delivery data, compiles the health condition data into a data summary, and transmits the data summary through a communication unit. A drop-down list related to subjective symptoms is provided, which includes stress and depression. A display touch method is used to enter data, selections, and controls. The health management program also provides prompts for the entry of diet data, and further displays drop-down lists related to daily activities and alerts for medication delivery.

29 . A method for managing treatment of a particular health condition afflicting a patient, the system comprising:
storing in a non-transitory memory (encoded or programmed) a health management application program configured to manage treatment of the particular health condition; accessing the memory with a processor to upload into the processor the health management application program; and programming the processor with the uploaded health management application program for:
controlling a display to issue a prompt for entry of patient health condition data, including subjective patient symptom data, related to the particular health condition in a predefined drop-down list of such symptoms that may be individually selected and entered as data;
receiving patient health condition data, including analyte level data with associated times at which the analyte level data was taken from a patient and further including subjective patient symptom data with associated times at which the symptoms were experienced, related to the particular health condition;
storing the received patient health condition data in the memory along with times associated with each of the data;
compiling the stored patient health condition data into a data summary in which analyte levels at specific times are associated with subjective patient symptom data so that the summary shows an overall view of possible influences of subjective patient symptoms on analyte levels; and
transmitting the accumulated data summary.
30 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein storing a health management application program comprises the step of storing in the memory a health management application program to manage treatment of diabetes.
31 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for issuing a prompt as at least one of a visual prompt, auditory prompt, vibratory prompt, and any combination thereof.
32 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present a visual prompt for entry of patient symptom data related to the particular health condition.
33 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present a visual prompt for entry of planned activity data related to the particular health condition.
34 . The method for managing treatment of claim 33 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for issuing an activity prompt that a medication delivery to a patient is due.
35 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present a visual prompt for entry of diet data.
36 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present a prompt for entry of data relating to stress affecting a patient.
37 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present a prompt for entry of data relating to depression affecting a patient.
38 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present a recommended treatment to a patient.
39 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for transmitting patient health condition data via a network for delivery to a health care provider.
40 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein the steps of accessing a memory, programming a processor, controlling a display, compiling, and transmitting are all performed with a non-transitory memory, a processor, a display, and a communication port that are components of a single portable device.
41 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to present the data summary.
42 . The method for managing treatment of claim 29 , wherein programming the processor further comprises programming the processor for controlling the display to receive at least one of manually input data and a manually input selection signal and a manually input control signal through touching the display.
43 . A method for managing treatment of a particular health condition afflicting a patient, the system comprising:
storing in a non-transitory memory (encoded or programmed) a health management application program configured to manage treatment of the particular health condition, the non-transitory memory being a component of a single portable device; accessing the memory with a processor to upload into the processor the health management application program, the processor being a component of the single portable device; and programming the processor with the uploaded health management application program for:
controlling a display, which also is a component of the single portable device, to issue an alert that a planned activity related to the particular health condition is due;
controlling the display to receive at least one of manually input data and a manually input selection signal and a manually input control signal through touching the display;
controlling the display to issue a prompt for entry of patient health condition data, including subjective patient symptom data, related to the particular health condition in a predefined drop-down list of such symptoms that may be individually selected and entered as data;
receiving patient medication delivery data related to the particular health condition via touch of the display;
receiving patient health condition data, including analyte level data with associated times at which the analyte level data was taken from a patient and further including receiving subjective patient symptom data via touch of the display, with associated times at which the symptoms were experienced, related to the particular health condition;
storing the received patient health condition data in the memory along with times associated with each of the data;
compiling the stored patient health condition data into a data summary in which analyte levels at specific times are associated with subjective patient symptom data so that the summary shows an overall view of possible influences of subjective patient symptoms on analyte levels; and
transmitting by a transmit port, which is also a component of the single portable device, the data summary via a network.
44 . The method for managing treatment of claim 43 , wherein storing a health management application program comprises the step of storing in the memory a health management application program to manage treatment of diabetes.
