System and Method for Automated Outgoing Caller Messages
Abstract
Provided is a system and method for centralizing common messaging functionality across a plurality of heterogeneous Mobile data processing System (MS) applications, and for synergistically bringing new messaging functionality to those applications. Outgoing Caller Messages (OCMs) include messages that can be left automatically to a phone call recording system by a caller. During an active call, a user of a calling device can request background processing to automatically handle the call for leaving an Outgoing Caller Message (OCM) at a callee's (i.e. called) recording system. The caller is free to perform other application processing while background processing occurs. No location based processing, nor location information, is required.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method, comprising:
configuring, with a user interface of a calling mobile data processing system, outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system for access by background processing of the calling mobile data processing system to communicate outgoing information for the outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system to a called data processing system in response to a user request to transfer handling of an active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system; initiating, by the calling mobile data processing system, the active telephony call to the called data processing system, wherein the active telephony call is completed through to the called data processing system; recognizing, by the calling mobile data processing system, the user request to transfer handling of the active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system; transferring the handling of the active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system, upon the recognizing, by the calling mobile data processing system, the user request; determining, with the background processing, the outgoing information for the outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system, wherein the calling mobile data processing system is capable of interfacing with a user of the calling mobile data processing system for executing other applications on the calling mobile data processing system while the active telephony call is being handled by the background processing; communicating, with the background processing, the outgoing information to the called data processing system; and terminating, with the background processing, the active telephony call after the communicating, with the background processing, the outgoing information to the called data processing system.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the outgoing information includes time information.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the outgoing information includes calendar application information.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the outgoing information includes audio information.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the outgoing information includes visual media information.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the background processing detects a prompt provided by the called data processing system indicating readiness to accept the outgoing information.
7 . A memory device storing instructions for execution by one or more processors, wherein the instructions cause processor operations comprising:
configuring, with a user interface of a calling mobile data processing system, outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system for access by background processing of the calling mobile data processing system to communicate outgoing information for the outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system to a called data processing system in response to a user request to transfer handling of an active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system; initiating, by the calling mobile data processing system, the active telephony call to the called data processing system, wherein the active telephony call is completed through to the called data processing system; recognizing, by the calling mobile data processing system, the user request to transfer handling of the active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system; transferring the handling of the active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system, upon the recognizing, by the calling mobile data processing system, the user request; determining, with the background processing, the outgoing information for the outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system, wherein the calling mobile data processing system is capable of interfacing with a user of the calling mobile data processing system for executing other applications on the calling mobile data processing system while the active telephony call is being handled by the background processing; communicating, with the background processing, the outgoing information to the called data processing system; and terminating, with the background processing, the active telephony call after the communicating, with the background processing, the outgoing information to the called data processing system.
8 . A storage device storing instructions for execution by one or more processors, wherein the instructions cause processor operations comprising:
configuring, with a user interface of a calling mobile data processing system, outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system for access by background processing of the calling mobile data processing system to communicate outgoing information for the outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system to a called data processing system in response to a user request to transfer handling of an active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system; initiating, by the calling mobile data processing system, the active telephony call to the called data processing system, wherein the active telephony call is completed through to the called data processing system; recognizing, by the calling mobile data processing system, the user request to transfer handling of the active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system; transferring the handling of the active telephony call initiated by the calling mobile data processing system to the background processing of the calling mobile data processing system, upon the recognizing, by the calling mobile data processing system, the user request; determining, with the background processing, the outgoing information for the outgoing caller message data stored local to the calling mobile data processing system, wherein the calling mobile data processing system is capable of interfacing with a user of the calling mobile data processing system for executing other applications on the calling mobile data processing system while the active telephony call is being handled by the background processing; communicating, with the background processing, the outgoing information to the called data processing system; and terminating, with the background processing, the active telephony call after the communicating, with the background processing, the outgoing information to the called data processing system.Cited by (0)
