Abstract
An active implantable medical device comprising a therapeutic device, a controller and at least one rechargeable battery, wherein a single hermetically sealed housing encapsulates a therapeutic device, controller and rechargeable battery. A hermetically sealed housing additionally encapsulates a wireless interface and a commutator.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 10 . (canceled)
11 . A ventricular assist device, comprising:
a blood pump including stators and an impeller; a first controller configured to energize the stators to produce a rotational torque on the impeller; at least one rechargeable battery configured to supply power to the blood pump and the first controller; a first hermetically sealed housing encapsulating the blood pump; an external power supply; a first coil for placement beneath the skin layer; a second coil for placement above the skin layer; and a second hermetically sealed housing encapsulating the at least one rechargeable battery and the first coil; wherein the ventricular assist device is configured to switch between the at least one rechargeable battery and the external power supply to provide a continuous pump power of at least 1 W.
12 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the rechargeable battery is configured to provide a continuous pump power of at least 3 watts.
13 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the rechargeable battery is configured to provide a continuous pump power of between 3 and 7 watts.
14 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the rechargeable battery is configured to provide a continuous pump power of between 5 and 10 watts.
15 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the blood pump is a centrifugal blood pump.
16 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the first controller includes a wireless interface for transmitting and receiving data instructions.
17 . The ventricular assist device of claim 16 , wherein the first controller is configured to transmit and receive data and instructions to and from a second controller.
18 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the first and second coils interact by one coil inducing an electrical current in the opposed coil including allowing the transmission and receipt of electrical energy and coded data transmission between the first and second coils.
19 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , further including a percutaneous lead for recharging the at least one rechargeable battery.
20 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , wherein the first hermetically sealed housing also encapsulates a commutator, which sequentially energizes the stators to produce a rotational torque on the impeller in accordance with a speed signal.
21 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , further including a wireless interface electrically connected to the first controller and configured to transmit and receive data and instructions to and from the ventricular assist device.
22 . The ventricular assist device of claim 11 , further comprising:
a second controller and data manager, configured for
providing controller functions in the event the first controller fails, and
storing data about the patient and/or pump.
23 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the second controller and data manager stores a motor speed and/or motor current data.
24 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the second controller is coupled to an external power supply.
25 . The ventricular assist device of claim 24 , wherein the first controller includes a wireless interface for transmitting and receiving data and instructions to and from the second controller.
26 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the first controller is connected to the second controller by a percutaneous lead.
27 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the second controller is an external controller and/or data manager (EDCM).
28 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the second controller comprises a controller running software designed for the purpose of an active implantable medical device control.
29 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the second controller comprises a controller running software.
30 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein in use the second controller is disposed externally of a patient.
31 . The ventricular assist device of claim 22 , wherein the first controller includes a wireless interface for transmitting and receiving data and instructions to and from the second controller.Cited by (0)
