         2 . The method of claim 1 , the method further comprising:
 receiving, via the second portion, a request for video playback of a second media item associated with the activity; and presenting video playback of the second media item in the first portion of the UI.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media player is presented as part of an application, and wherein the activity is associated with the application.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content is provided by a media platform.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity is a search for a second media item, and wherein the content is provided by a search engine platform.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity is social networking, and wherein the content presented in the second portion is provided by a social network application.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity is messaging, wherein the content includes a plurality of messages from at least two different users of a message service.

         8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity comprises an interaction with an electronic advertisement.

         9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the UI is presented semi-transparently.

         10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the UI is associated with a social network application.

         11 . An apparatus comprising:
 a display device; a memory communicably coupled to the display device; and a processing device communicably coupled to the memory, the processing device to execute instructions to:
 present a media player in a first portion of a user interface (UI) of a content sharing platform on a mobile device, the media player to provide playback of a media item;
 receive, via a second portion of the UI, a user request to perform an activity that is independent of the viewing of the media item; and
 present content associated with the requested activity while continuing to provide playback of the media item in the media player of the first portion of the UI.

         12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the processing device is further to:
 receive, via the second portion, a request for video playback of a second media item associated with the activity; and present video playback of the second media item in the first portion of the UI.

         13 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the media player and the activity are associated with an application.
