Abstract
A catheter for recovering amniotic fluid is provided. The catheter includes a flexible tube encompassing a first and second lumen. The first lumen includes a cannulated trocar head at the distal end capable of passing through an amnion and chorion membrane. A first balloon is positioned on the second lumen and is capable of inflating on the distal side of a chorion membrane. A second balloon is positioned on the second lumen and capable of inflating on the proximal side of an amniotic membrane.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWe claim:
1 . A catheter for recovering amniotic fluid comprising:
a flexible tube encompassing a first and second lumen, the first lumen comprising a cannulated trocar head capable of passing through an amnion and chorion membrane; a first balloon positioned on the second lumen and capable of inflating on the distal side of a chorion membrane; and a second balloon positioned on the second lumen and capable of inflating on the proximal side of an amniotic membrane.
2 . The catheter of claim 1 , wherein the first lumen is open and allows amniotic fluid to drain out.
3 . The catheter of claim 1 , wherein the second lumen provides a means for inflating the first and second balloons.
4 . The catheter of claim 1 , wherein inflation of the first and second balloons prevents tearing or rupturing of the membranes and prohibits material blood from entering into in the fetal sac.
5 . The catheter of claim 1 , wherein inflation of the first and second balloons prevents the cannulated trocar head from slipping out of the fetal sac.
6 . The catheter of claim 1 , wherein inflation of the first and second balloons seals any perforation caused by the entry of the cannulated trocar into the amnion and chorion membranes to prevent amniotic fluid loss.Cited by (0)
