Layer sequence repeater module for a modular disk co-extrusion die and products thereof
Abstract
A layer sequence repeater module for a co-extrusion die includes a cell formed of a plurality of thin annular disks stacked on top of each other in an axial direction of the co-extrusion die. Each disk includes a plurality of openings aligned with openings in the adjacent disks, thus forming multiple inner and outer melt passages. At least one of the layer sequence repeater module includes at least one first cap disk, at least one second cap disk, at least one distribution disk, at least one repeater disk and at least one spreader disk. The layer sequence repeater module may be a separately assembled and individually removable module of the co-extrusion die. Alternatively or additionally, the layer sequence repeater module may be incorporated into a module of the co-extrusion die.

1 . A coextruded film comprising more than thirty layers;
the thirty layers comprising twenty-one layers A and B in an alternating A/B sequence; each of the layers A comprising a first polymer composition; each of the layers B comprising a second polymer composition; wherein each of the layers A is a nanolayer having a thickness less than one micron.
2 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein the second polymer composition is different than the first polymer composition.
3 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein the second polymer composition is the same as the first polymer composition.
4 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein each of the layers B is a nanolayer having a thickness less than one micron.
5 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein each of the layers B is a micro-layer having a thickness of 1-1000 microns.
6 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein each of the layers A has a thickness of 10-900 nanometers.
7 . The coextruded film of claim 6 , wherein each of the layers B has a thickness of 10-900 nanometers.
8 . The coextruded film of claim 6 , wherein each of the layers B has a thickness of 10-500 microns.
9 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises an elastomer.
10 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises ethylene vinyl alcohol and the other of the first and second polymer compositions comprises an adhesive.
11 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises a low density polyethylene and the other of the first and second polymer compositions comprises a cyclic olefin copolymer.
12 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises a cyclic copolymer and the other of the first and second polymer compositions comprises ethylene vinyl acetate.
13 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises ethylene vinyl alcohol and the other of the first and second polymer compositions comprises a polyethylene adhesive resin.
14 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises a polyamide and the other of the first and second polymer compositions comprises ethylene vinyl alcohol.
15 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second polymer compositions comprises polyethylene and the other of the first and second polymer compositions comprises a different polyethylene.
16 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , comprising fifty-one layers.
17 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , comprising seventy-seven layers.
18 . A coextruded film comprising twenty-five layers;
the twenty-five layers comprising twenty-one layers A and B in an alternating A/B sequence; each of the layers A comprising a first polymer composition; each of the layers B comprising a second polymer composition; the twenty-five layers further comprising layers C and D on both sides of the twenty-one layers A and B in alternating A/B sequence; wherein each of the layers A, C and D is a nanolayer having a thickness of less than one micron.
19 . The coextruded film of claim 18 , wherein the second polymer composition is different from the first polymer composition.
20 . The coextruded film of claim 18 , wherein the second polymer composition is the same as the first polymer composition.
21 . The coextruded film of claim 18 wherein each of the layers C and D comprises the first polymer composition.
22 . The coextruded film of claim 18 , wherein each of the layers C and D comprises a third polymer composition that is different from the first polymer composition.
23 . The coextruded file of claim 18 , comprising a plurality of layers C and D, wherein each of the layers C and D comprises a third polymer composition that is the same as the first or second polymer composition.
24 . A coextruded film comprising a plurality of layer sets;
each layer set comprising twenty-five layers, wherein the twenty-five layers comprise twenty-one layers A and B in an alternating sequence; each of the layers A comprising a first polymer composition; each of the layers B comprising a second polymer composition that is different from the first polymer composition; wherein each of the layers A is a nanolayer having a thickness less than one micron.
25 . The coextruded film of claim 24 , wherein the second polymer composition is different from the first polymer composition.
26 . The coextruded film of claim 24 , wherein the second polymer composition is the same as the first polymer composition.
27 . The coextruded film of claim 24 , comprising seventy-seven layers and including three of the layer sets.
28 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein the film is an annular film.
29 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein the film is an oriented shrink film.
30 . The coextruded film of claim 1 , wherein the film is a flat tape.
