Method and system for distribution of content using a syndication delay
Abstract
Embodiments of methods and systems for incorporating user generated content into a web page are disclosed. In particular, embodiments of such systems and methods may incorporate user generated content into a web page such that the user generated content can be consumed by indexers associated with search engines in association with that web page. Additionally, embodiments may also provide a mechanism by which user generated content may be received and included in a web page when that web page is rendered. Using embodiments as disclosed herein user generated content may be exposed to a search engine indexer in a web page while still providing a mechanism for incorporating the freshest user generated content in such a web page. Embodiments may also improve the ability of search engines or search engine indexers to determine the site of origin for such user content.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 21 . (canceled)
22 . A method comprising:
a computer system receiving, from a first web site, first user generated content that is associated with an opinion of an item; and based on information indicating that at least a portion of the first user generated content was generated within a particular time interval corresponding to the first web site, the computer system causing a modification to a search property of a second web site that is associated with the item.
23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
initiating, by the computer system, a mirror site to the first web site; and providing, by the computer system, the first user generated content to the mirror site such that the first user generated content is displayed on the mirror site.
24 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
providing, by the computer system, a remaining portion of the first user generated content to the second web site; and subsequent to the providing, the computer system causing the modification to the search property of the second web site such that the second web site is indexed by a search engine in accordance with the remaining portion of the first user generated content.
25 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
subsequent to the receiving, the computer system determining that a remaining portion of the first user generated content was generated within a different time interval; and based on the determining, the computer system causing the remaining portion of the first user generated content to be included in a source code corresponding to the second web site.
26 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
receiving, by the computer system, a request to display the second web site; and in response to the request, the computer system causing the modification to the search property of the second web site.
27 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the portion of the first user generated content includes an identifier that uniquely identifies the portion.
28 . A system comprising:
a processor, a memory configured to communicated with the processor, the memory having instructions executable by the processor to cause the system to carry out operations comprising: determining, for a first web site that includes first user generated content associated with an item, that at least one attribute of the first user generated content corresponds to an indexing property of the first web site; based on the determining, selecting a portion of the first user generated content; and facilitating, based on the portion of the first user generated content, a display of web search result that includes a second web site associated with the item.
29 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:
comparing a time attribute for a portion of the first user generated content and a threshold value specified for the first web site; and based on a result of the comparing, wherein the result indicates that the time attribute is below the threshold value, determining that the time attribute corresponds to the indexing property of the first web site.
30 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:
causing a modification to source code of the second web site to include the portion of the first user generated content.
31 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:
causing the second web site to include at least one content generation opportunity for generating additional user generated content for the item.
32 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving the first user generated content; and subsequent to receiving the first user generated content, reformatting the first user generated content corresponding to a particular format associated with the second web site.
33 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:
providing the portion of the first user generated content to the second web site; and based on the providing, causing a modification to an indexing property of the second web site.
34 . An article of manufacture comprising at least one non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions executable by a computer system to cause the computer system to perform operations comprising:
receiving user generated content that is associated with an opinion of an item displayed on a first web site; determining that a first time interval has elapsed for a first portion of the user generated content; and based on the determining, providing the first portion of the user generated content to a second web site displaying the item such that a source code of the second web site is updated.
35 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
based on information indicating that a second time interval for a second portion of the user generated content has elapsed, replacing, for the second web site, the first portion of the user generated content with the second portion.
36 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
initiating a third web site that corresponds to the first web site; and causing the user generated content to be displayed by the third web site but not the first web site.
37 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
subsequent to receiving the user generated content, combining the user generated content with a data tag such that the user generated content and the data tag are included in the source code of the second web site.
38 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
upon receiving the user generated content, applying a syndication delay filter to the user generated content; and subsequent to applying the syndication delay filter, determining that the first time interval has elapsed.
39 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving, from a user associated with the first web site, a syndication delay time interval specifying a threshold delay time interval for the user generated content between the first web site and the second web site.
40 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
determining that the user generated content includes an identifier identifying a particular category of the item for the first web site; and based on information indicating that the particular category for the first web site corresponds to a different category for the second web site, updating the user generated content to include an updated identifier for the item.
41 . The article of manufacture of claim 34 , wherein the operations further comprise:
prior to determining that the first time interval has elapsed, withholding the first portion of the user generated content from the second web site.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
