Led package having an array of light emitting cells coupled in series

Abstract

A light emitting diode (LED) package includes a package body having a recessed portion, a first lead electrode and a second lead electrode spaced apart from each other, and a light emitting device arranged in the recessed portion and electrically connected to the first lead electrode and the second lead electrode. The LED package is configured to be driven by an alternating current (AC) and by a voltage higher than that for driving one light emitting diode.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A light emitting diode (LED) package, comprising:
 a package body comprising a recessed portion;   a first lead electrode and a second lead electrode spaced apart from each other; and   a light emitting device arranged in the recessed portion and electrically connected to the first lead electrode and the second lead electrode;   wherein the LED package is configured to be driven by an alternating current (AC) and by a voltage higher than that for driving one light emitting diode.   
     
     
         2 . The LED package of  claim 1 , wherein the package body comprises a substrate, the light emitting device is arranged on a first side of the substrate, and the first lead electrode and the second lead electrode are arranged on a second side of the substrate that is opposite the first side of the substrate. 
     
     
         3 . The LED package of  claim 1 , wherein the package body comprises a substrate and a reflector, the reflector being arranged on the substrate to surround the light emitting device, and the reflector protruding from the substrate to form the recessed portion together with the substrate. 
     
     
         4 . The LED package of  claim 1 , wherein the light emitting device comprises a plurality of light emitting devices. 
     
     
         5 . The LED package of  claim 4 , wherein the light emitting devices are connected in series. 
     
     
         6 . The LED package of  claim 1 , wherein the package body comprises a substrate comprising a groove forming the recessed portion, and the light emitting device is arranged in the groove. 
     
     
         7 . The LED package of  claim 1 , wherein the first lead electrode and the second lead electrode are arranged in the recessed portion. 
     
     
         8 . The LED package of  claim 1 , wherein the first lead electrode and the second lead electrode are not arranged in the recessed portion.
