Claims

Abstract

An information processing apparatus that can avoid an IEEE802.1X re-authentication process due to a communication speed setting change made at the time of transitioning to the power-saving state and realize both of security and power-saving. Fixed link speed with which both a MFP 100 and a communication apparatuses are compatible is set on the basis of acquired pieces of link speed setting information about the MFP 100 and the communication apparatus. Then, 100 Mbps lower than 1000 Mbps is fixedly set on the basis of acquired power-saving setting information about the MFP 100 when the power-saving setting is effective, and EEE is enabled.

An information processing apparatus operating in a first power state or a second power state in which power supply is reduced lower than the first power state, and performing communication with a communication apparatus connected via a network in a predetermined communication mode, the information processing apparatus comprising:
 a judgment unit configured to judge whether setting of communication speed between the information processing apparatus and the communication apparatus is automatic speed setting or not; and   a communication control unit configured to, if it is judged by said judgment unit that the setting of the communication speed is the automatic speed setting, set the communication speed to fixed communication speed with which network connection with the communication apparatus is not cut off at the time of transitioning from the first power state to the second power state.   
     
     
         2 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 , comprising:
 a first acquisition unit configured to, if it is judged by said judgment unit that the setting of the communication speed is the automatic speed setting, acquire pieces of communication speed setting information about the information processing apparatus and the communication apparatus; and   a second acquisition unit configured to acquire power-saving setting information about the information processing apparatus; wherein   said communication control unit sets the communication speed to fixed communication speed determined from the pieces of communication speed setting information acquired by said first acquisition unit and the power-saving setting information acquired by said second acquisition unit.

The information processing apparatus according to  claim 2 , wherein said communication control unit sets the communication speed to fixed communication speed that is communication speed prescribed in IEEE802.1X and that is compatible or incompatible with EEE prescribed in IEEE802.3az on the basis of the pieces of communication speed setting information acquired by said first acquisition unit.

The information processing apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein said communication control unit controls the communication speed to be set to 1000 Mbps or 100 Mbps fixed communication speed if the communication apparatus is judged to be compatible with EEE from the communication speed setting information and controls the communication speed to be set to 1000 Mbps or 100 Mbps fixed communication speed if the communication apparatus is judged to be incompatible with EEE. 
     
     
         5 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein said communication control unit performs control to set the communication speed to 1000 Mbps if it is judged from the power-saving setting information that power consumption of the information processing apparatus is high, and set the communication speed to 100 Mbps if it is judged that the power consumption of the information processing apparatus is low. 
     
     
         6 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 5 , wherein said communication control unit sets the communication speed to fixed communication speed enabling EEE if it is judged from the power-saving setting information that power-saving setting is effective. 
     
     
         7 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the communication mode includes a communication mode based on IEEE802.1X authentication and a communication mode based on IP-FAX on an NGN. 
     
     
         8 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 , further comprising a notification unit configured to, when the setting of the communication speed is the automatic speed setting in the case of enabling setting of the communication mode, notify a user that the communication speed is to be set to such fixed communication speed that the network connection with the communication apparatus is not cut off, at the time of transitioning from the first power state to the second power state. 
     
     
         9 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 , further comprising a selection unit configured to, when the setting of the communication speed is the automatic speed setting in the case of enabling setting of the communication mode, display a plurality of such communication speeds that the network connection with the communication apparatus is not cut off, at the time of transitioning from the first power state to the second power state, and cause the user to make a selection. 
     
     
         10 . A control method for an information processing apparatus operating in a first power state or a second power state in which power supply is reduced lower than the first power state, and performing communication with a communication apparatus connected via a network in a predetermined communication mode, the control method comprising:
 a judgment step of judging whether setting of communication speed between the information processing apparatus and the communication apparatus is automatic speed setting or not; and   a communication control step of, if it is judged in said judgment step that the setting of the communication speed is the automatic speed setting, set the communication speed to fixed communication speed with which network connection with the communication apparatus is not cut off at the time of transitioning from the first power state to the second power state.   
     
     
         11 . A computer-readable non-transitory storage medium in which is stored a program for causing an information processing apparatus to implement a control method comprising:
 a judgment step of judging whether setting of communication speed between the information processing apparatus and the communication apparatus is automatic speed setting or not; and   a communication control step of, if it is judged in said judgment step that the setting of the communication speed is the automatic speed setting, set the communication speed to fixed communication speed with which network connection with the communication apparatus is not cut off at the time of transitioning from the first power state to the second power state.
