Azeotrope-like compositions comprising 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene

Abstract

An azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of chlorotrifluoropropene and at least one component selected from the group consisting of a C 1 -C 3 alcohol, a C 5 -C 6 hydrocarbon, a halogenated hydrocarbon, methylal, methyl acetone, water, nitromethane, and combinations thereof.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A composition comprising a binary azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and a halogenated hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of 1-chloropropane, 2-chloropropane, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane, and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, provided that if said halogenated hydrocarbon is trans-1,2-dichloroethylene and said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, then said azeotrope-like mixture has a boiling point of about 17° C. to about 19° C. at a pressure of about 14.7 psia±0.5 psi. 
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1  wherein said azeotrope-like mixture consists essentially of about 96 to about 99.9 weight percent trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and about 0.1 to about 4 weight percent 1-chloropropane. 
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 1  wherein said azeotrope-like mixture consists essentially of about 94 to about 99.9 weight percent trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and about 0.1 to about 6 weight percent 2-chloropropane. 
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 1  wherein said azeotrope-like mixture consists essentially of about 89 to about 99.9 weight percent trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and about 0.1 to about 11 weight percent 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane. 
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 1  wherein said azeotrope-like mixture consists essentially of about 42 to about 99.9 weight percent cis-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and about 0.1 to about 58 weight percent trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. 
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 1  further comprising at least one adjuvant. 
     
     
         7 . A heat transfer composition comprising the composition of  claim 6 , wherein said adjuvant is selected from the group consisting of a co-blowing agents, fillers, vapor pressure modifiers, flame suppressants, stabilizers, lubricants, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         8 . A heat transfer composition comprising at least about 50% by weight of the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         9 . A blowing agent comprising the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         10 . A blowing agent comprising at least about 5% by weight of the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         11 . A foamable composition comprising one or more components capable of forming foam and the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         12 . A foam formed from the foamable composition of  claim 11 . 
     
     
         13 . A closed cell foam comprising the foam of  claim 12 . 
     
     
         14 . A sprayable composition comprising a material to be sprayed and a propellant comprising the composition of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         15 . The sprayable composition of  claim 14  in the form of an aerosol. 
     
     
         16 . The sprayable composition of  claim 14  wherein said material to be sprayed is selected from the group consisting of cosmetics, cleaning solvent, lubricants and medicinal materials. 
     
     
         17 . A solvent composition comprising the composition of  claim 1 .
