Abstract

A mobile telephone capable of controlling a remote keyless system is provided. The mobile telephone is loaded with an executable program that enables the mobile telephone to control the remote keyless system using frequencies and systems already used by the remote keyless system. The complex functionality a mobile telephone allows the executable program to fully control remote keyless systems.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A mobile telephone comprising:
an executable program which enables said mobile telephone to control a remote keyless system and onboard computer installed on an automobile, wherein said executable program enables said mobile telephone to start the engine of an automobile, and wherein said executable program disables at least one function of said mobile telephone in response to a proximity of the executable program being detected by the remote keyless system.

2 . The mobile telephone of claim 1 wherein said executable program comprises an encryption algorithm.

3 . The mobile telephone of claim 1 further comprising a capability of sending and receiving data over a 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using frequency-hopping spread spectrum methods, and wherein said remote keyless system operates over a 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using frequency-hopping spread spectrum methods.

4 . The mobile telephone of claim 1 wherein said executable program enables said mobile telephone to passively communicate with said remote keyless system.

5 . The mobile telephone of claim 1 wherein said remote keyless system is a cellular equipped communications and vehicle security system.

6 . The mobile telephone of claim 1 wherein said at least one function is at least one of text messaging, internet browsing, and telephony.

7 . A method of controlling a remote keyless system, said method comprising:
loading an executable program onto a mobile telephone, wherein said executable program enables said mobile telephone to control said remote keyless system, wherein said mobile telephone passively communicates with said remote keyless system to automatically initiate active operation of at least one function associated with said remote keyless system when a location of said mobile telephone is wirelessly detected proximate to said remote keyless system.

8 . The method of claim 7 wherein said executable program encrypts communications between said mobile telephone and said remote keyless system.

9 . The method of claim 7 wherein said mobile telephone has a capability of sending and receiving data over a 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using frequency-hopping spread spectrum methods, and wherein said remote keyless system operates over a 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using frequency-hopping spread spectrum methods.

10 . The method of claim 7 wherein said remote keyless system is installed on an automobile.

11 . The method of claim 10 wherein said remote keyless system is a cellular equipped communications and vehicle security system.

12 . The method of claim 10 wherein said automobile comprises at least one system controlled by an onboard computer, wherein said onboard computer is controlled by said remote keyless system, and wherein said executable program comprises an interface which allows a user of said mobile telephone to control said at least one function of said at least one system.

13 . The method of claim 12 wherein said system is at least one of door lock system, air conditioning system, heating system, engine ignition system, audio system, video system, lighting system and door movement system.

14 . A method for operating a remote keyless system installed on an automobile, the method comprising:
executing a first executable program on a first mobile telephone, the executing of the first executable program enabling said first mobile telephone to passively communicate with said remote keyless system to control a first group of functions of said remote keyless system when execution of said first executable program is automatically detected proximate to said remote keyless system, and executing a second executable program on a second mobile telephone different that the first mobile telephone, the executing of the second executable program enabling said second mobile telephone to passively communicate with said remote keyless system to control a second group of functions of said remote keyless system when execution of said second executable program is automatically detected proximate to said remote keyless system, wherein said second group of functions comprises one or more, but less than all, of said first group of functions.

15 . The method of claim 14 wherein said executable programs comprise an encryption algorithm.

16 . The method of claim 14 wherein said mobile telephones control said remote keyless system by sending and receiving data over a 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using frequency-hopping spread spectrum methods, and wherein said remote keyless system operates over a 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using frequency-hopping spread spectrum methods.

17 . The method of claim 14 wherein said first group of functions comprises door lock, door unlock and remote start, and wherein said second group of functions comprises door lock and door unlock and not remote start.

18 . The method of claim 14 wherein said executable program enables said mobile telephones to passively communicate with said remote keyless system.

19 . The method of claim 14 wherein said remote keyless system is a cellular equipped communications and vehicle security system.

20 . The method of claim 14 wherein said automobile comprises at least one system controlled by an onboard computer, wherein said onboard computer is controlled by said remote keyless system, and wherein said executable programs comprise an interface which allows a user of said mobile telephones to control said at least one function of said at least one system.

21 . The method of claim 33 wherein said system is at least one of door lock system, air conditioning system, engine ignition system, heating system, audio system, video system, interior or exterior lighting system, horn, window movement, trunk movement, and door movement system.
