Abstract

A canister filter system includes a base, a canister attachable to the base, and a fluid separator filter having filter media positioned inside the canister. A drain engages and forms a seal with the filter in a closed position. In an open position, the drain allows fluid to be removed from the canister. The structure of the filter is such that the filter may more efficiently separate fluids.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . An endcap for a filter, the end cap comprising:
a lid configured to extend across an end of filter media of a filter, the lid being configured to prevent at least one of unfiltered fluid and water from bypassing the filter media; a pocket extending from the lid, the pocket including a cavity configured to receive a drain; and a housing extending from the lid and around the pocket, wherein an axial length of the pocket is less than an axial height of the housing.

22 . The endcap of claim 21 , further including a plurality of inner fins extending between the pocket and the housing.

23 . The endcap of claim 21 , further including a plurality of outer fins extending from an outer surface of the housing.

24 . The endcap of claim 23 , wherein at least one of the outer fins includes a chamfered edge.

25 . The endcap of claim 21 , wherein the pocket includes a threaded section and a generally smooth section, and wherein the threaded section is intermediate with respect to the generally smooth section and the lid.

26 . The endcap of claim 25 , wherein the generally smooth section is configured to receive an O-ring seal associated with the drain.

27 . The endcap of claim 25 , wherein the pocket includes a rim configured to abut a flange associated with the drain.

28 . The endcap of claim 21 , wherein the endcap further includes a retaining wall extending from the lid opposite the pocket and configured to extend into the filter media.

         29 . A filter comprising:
filter media surrounding a reservoir and configured to allow a first fluid to pass into the reservoir and block passage of impurities and a second fluid into the reservoir; and an endcap associated with an end of the filter media, the endcap including:
 a lid extending across an end of the filter media;
a pocket extending from the lid opposite the filter media, the pocket including a cavity configured to receive a drain; and
a housing extending from the lid and around the pocket,
wherein an axial length of the pocket is less than an axial height of the housing.

30 . The filter of claim 29 , further including a cover including an opening configured to provide flow communication between a filter base and the filter media, wherein the filter media is between the cover and the endcap.

31 . The filter of claim 30 , further including a sleeve defining the reservoir and extending between the cover and the endcap.

32 . The filter of claim 29 , further including a plurality of inner fins extending between the pocket and the housing.

33 . The filter of claim 29 , further including a plurality of outer fins extending from an outer surface of the housing.

34 . The filter of claim 33 , wherein at least one of the outer fins includes a chamfered edge.

35 . The filter of claim 29 , wherein the pocket includes a threaded section and a generally smooth section, and wherein the threaded section is intermediate with respect to the generally smooth section and the lid.

36 . The filter of claim 35 , further including an O-ring seal associated with the drain, and wherein the generally smooth section of the pocket is configured to receive the O-ring seal.

37 . The filter of claim 35 , wherein the drain includes a flange, the pocket includes a rim, and the flange is configured to abut the rim of the pocket.

38 . The filter of claim 29 , wherein the endcap further includes a retaining wall opposite the pocket and extending into the filter media.

         39 . A filter system comprising:
a canister; a bowl coupled to the canister and having a floor; a drain associated with the bowl; and a filter received in the canister, the filter including:
filter media surrounding a reservoir and configured to allow a first fluid to pass into the reservoir and block passage of impurities and a second fluid into the reservoir; and
an endcap associated with an end of the filter media, the endcap including:
a lid extending across the end of the filter media; and
a pocket extending from the lid opposite the filter media, the pocket including a cavity configured to receive the drain,

wherein the end cap is configured to prevent fluid in the bowl from flowing into the reservoir.

40 . The filter system of claim 39 , wherein the endcap further includes a housing extending around the pocket, and wherein an axial length of the pocket is less than an axial height of the housing.
