Adjustable collar stay for men and womens apparel

Abstract

Embodiments relate to an apparatus and method for holding a shirt collar in a position and orientation on a shirt front. The apparatus includes a first elongate collar stay adapted for attachment to an inside surface of the shirt collar or positionable within a collar stay pocket of the shirt collar, the first elongate collar stay having a first adherence portion for removable contact with inside surface of the shirt collar or the collar stay pocket; and a second elongate collar stay moveably connected to the first elongate collar stay, the second elongate collar stay adapted for attachment to an outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the shirt collar and in relation thereto, the second elongate collar stay having a second adherence portion for removable contact with the outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the collar and in relation thereto.

1 . An apparatus for holding a shirt collar in a position and orientation on a shirt front, comprising:
 a first portion adapted for attachment to an inside surface of the shirt collar or positionable within a collar stay pocket of the shirt collar, the first portion having a first adherence portion for removable contact with inside surface of the shirt collar or the collar stay pocket;   a second portion moveably connected to the first portion, the second portion adapted for attachment to an outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the shirt collar and in relation thereto; and   at least one of the first portion and the second portion having an adherence portion for removable contact with inside surface of the shirt collar, the collar stay pocket and/or the outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the shirt collar and in relation thereto.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1  wherein the first portion and the second portion have an adherence portion. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the first portion and the second portion cooperatively engage for substantially limiting relative movements of the shirt collar with respect to the shirt. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first portion and the second portion is selected from the material comprising at least metal, stainless steel plastic and horn and the like. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 4  further comprising at least one of the first portion and the second portion is comprised of a flexible material adapted to bend in response to the arrangement of the shirt collar and outside surface of the shirt collar. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 1  further comprising a bendable portion moveable connecting the first portion to the second portion. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 1  further comprising a weakened portion moveable connecting the first portion to the second portion. 
     
     
         8 . An apparatus for holding a shirt collar in a position and orientation on a shirt front, comprising:
 a first elongate collar stay adapted for attachment to an inside surface of the shirt collar or positionable within a collar stay pocket of the shirt collar,   a second elongate collar stay moveably connected to the first elongate collar stay, the second elongate collar stay adapted for attachment to an outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the shirt collar and in relation thereto; and   at least one of the first elongate collar stay and the second elongate collar stay having an adhesive for removable contact with at least one of the inside surface of the shirt collar or the collar stay pocket.   
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the first elongate collar stay and the second elongate collar stay cooperatively engage for substantially limiting relative movements of the shirt collar with respect to the shirt. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 8  further comprising a bend portion moveable connecting the first elongate collar stay portion to the second elongate collar stay portion. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 8  further comprising a weakened portion moveable connecting the first elongate collar stay portion to the second elongate collar stay portion. 
     
     
         12 . A method for attaching a shirt collar in a position and orientation to a shirt front using an apparatus, the apparatus comprising:
 a first elongate collar stay having a first tacky portion; and   a second elongate collar stay moveably connected to the first elongate collar stay, the second elongate collar stay having a second tacky portion;   
       the method comprising:
 positioning the first elongate collar stay on the shirt collar; 
 adhering the first elongate to the shirt collar; 
 positioning the second elongate collar stay to an outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the shirt collar and in relation thereto; and 
 adhering the second elongate collar stay to the outside surface of the shirt opposite the inside surface of the shirt collar and in relation thereto. 
 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12  wherein positioning the first elongate collar comprises positioning the first elongate stay on an inside surface of the shirt and adhering the first elongate stay to the inside surface of the shirt collar. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12  wherein positioning the first elongate collar stay comprises inserting the first elongate stay into a collar stay pocket of the shirt collar and adhering the first elongate stay to the collar stay pocket using the first tacky portion. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 12  further comprising bending the shirt collar so that the first elongate collar stay and second elongate collar stay are covered by the shirt collar.
