Abstract

The present invention relates to ophthalmic systems and coatings comprising a selective light wavelength filter, wherein said selective filter provides improved contrast sensitivity.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . An ophthalmic system comprising:
 a filter that selectively blocks 10-40% of light in a wavelength range of 420-440 nm;
 wherein the system has an average transmission of at least 80% across the visible spectrum;
 wherein white light has a CIE of (0.33+/−0.05, 033+/−0.05) when transmitted through the system; and
 wherein the system has a yellowness index of 15 or less.

         2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter selectively blocks 10-30% of light in a wavelength range of 420-440 nm.

         3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter selectively blocks 10-20% of light in a wavelength range of 420-440 nm.

         4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter selectively blocks 5-40% of light in a wavelength range of 420-440 nm.

         5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter selectively blocks 5-30% of light in a wavelength range of 420-440 nm.

         6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter selectively blocks 5-20% of light in a wavelength range of 420-440 nm.

         7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system has an average transmission of at least 85% across the visible spectrum.

         8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system has an average transmission of at least 90% across the visible spectrum.

         9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter comprises an antireflective component.

         10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system further comprises UVA and UVB blocking.

         11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter comprises porphyrin dye and derivatives thereof.

         12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter comprises a film comprising poly vinyl butyral.

         13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system has a yellowness index of 10 or less.

         14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system has a yellowness index of 9 or less.

         15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system has a yellowness index of 7 or less.

         16 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system has a yellowness index of 5 or less.

         17 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system causes a maximum color shift of no more than 20 just noticeable difference units in the CIE color space for each tile of the Munsell Color System under a D65 daylight illuminant.

         18 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system reduces scotopic luminance by less than 15% and photopic luminance by less than 15%.

         19 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter is absorptive.

         20 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the filter is reflective.
