Hinge Using Composite Materials

Abstract

A multi-function case and support for an electronic device, such as a tablet computer. The case may be adapted to support the tablet in a variety of configurations, such as similar to a laptop computer configuration, and as a raised support. The case may also protect the electronic device from rough contact and other wear. In the raised support configuration, the case and support may be adapted to allow for rotation of the tablet from a landscape to a portrait attitude.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A hinge comprising;
 a composite material, said composite material comprising:
 a rigid top layer; 
 a flexible middle layer; and 
 a rigid bottom layer, wherein said rigid top layer is removed along the top of said composite material along a first line, and wherein said rigid bottom layer is removed along the bottom of said composite material along said first line, creating a hinge line in said composite material along said first line. 
   
     
     
         2 . The hinge of  claim 1  wherein said rigid top layer and said rigid bottom layer comprise metal. 
     
     
         3 . The hinge of  claim 2  wherein said rigid top layer and said rigid bottom layer comprise aluminum. 
     
     
         4 . The hinge of  claim 2  wherein said flexible middle layer comprises polypropylene. 
     
     
         5 . The hinge of  claim 3  wherein said flexible middle layer comprises polypropylene.
