Abstract
An intramedullary fixation assembly for bone fusion includes a first member positioned at a proximal end of the intramedullary fixation assembly, where the first member includes a plurality of first and second retaining screws, and a second member positioned at a distal end of the intramedullary fixation assembly, where the second member includes a plurality of third and fourth retaining screws. The first member is slideably coupled to the second member and provides for an interference fit with the second member.

a first member positioned at a proximal end of said intramedullary fixation assembly, wherein said first member comprises a plurality of first and second retaining screws; and a second member positioned at a distal end of said intramedullary fixation assembly, wherein said second member comprises a plurality of third and fourth retaining screws, wherein said first member is slideably coupled to said second member and provides for an interference fit with said second member.
2 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 1 , wherein said first member comprises a first elongated body, wherein said first elongated body includes a first circular end and a second tapered end.
3 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 2 , wherein said first member comprises a hexagonally shaped hole disposed at said first circular end.
4 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 3 , wherein said plurality of first and second retaining screws are inserted into a plurality of first and second holes disposed in said first member.
5 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 4 , wherein said plurality of first and second retaining screws are inserted into a first bone.
6 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 5 , wherein said plurality of first and second retaining screws are inserted into a plurality of first and second transverse holes disposed in said first member.
7 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 6 , wherein said first member includes a first orifice longitudinally coextensive with a length of said first member.
8 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 7 , wherein said second member comprises a second elongated body, wherein said second elongated body is tapered from a third end to a fourth end.
9 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 8 , wherein said plurality of third and fourth retaining screws are inserted into a plurality of third and fourth apertures disposed in said second member.
10 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 9 , wherein said second member includes a second orifice longitudinally coextensive with a length of said second member.
11 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 10 , wherein said second orifice has a hexagonal shape, a star shape, or a square shape.
12 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 11 , wherein said second orifice is provided to receive a complementary shaped end of an instrument.
13 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 12 , wherein said second elongated body comprises a third orifice coupled to said second orifice.
14 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 13 , wherein said second orifice includes a hexagonally shaped opening, a star-shaped opening, or a square-shaped opening partially disposed in said second elongated body.
15 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 14 , wherein said opening is provided to receive a complementary shaped member.
16 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 15 , wherein said third orifice traverses said second elongated body from said third end to an exterior surface on said second elongated body.
17 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 16 , wherein said third orifice is tapered.
18 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 17 , wherein said third orifice forms a predetermined angle with said second orifice.
19 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 18 , wherein said predetermined angle determines an angle for restoration.
20 . The intramedullary fixation assembly of claim 19 , wherein said third orifice receives said first elongated body of said first member, wherein said first circular end is contained in said third orifice, and further wherein said third end abuts said opening at said third end.
