Abstract

An herbicidal composition containing (a) a pyridine or pyrimidine carboxylic acid component and (b) a second cereal or rice herbicide component provides synergistic control of selected weeds.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 11 . (canceled)

12 . A synergistic herbicidal mixture comprising an herbicidally effective amount of:
 (a) a first herbicide which is a pyridine carboxylic acid of the formula (I)

wherein X represents CH, hal represents F, Cl or Br, and R represents methyl or ethyl,

or an agriculturally acceptable salt, ester or amide thereof, and (b) aminopyralid, clopyralid, or a mixture thereof, or an agriculturally acceptable salt, ester or amide thereof.

13 . The mixture of claim 12 in which, for the compound of Formula (1), hal represents For Cl and R represents methyl.

14 . The mixture of claim 12 in which the first herbicide is a 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid or an agriculturally acceptable salt, ester or amide thereof.

15 . The mixture of claim 14 in which the 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid derivative is 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester, 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid potassium salt or 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid triethylammonium salt.

16 . The mixture of claim 12 in which the second herbicide is aminopyralid or an agriculturally acceptable salt, ester or amide thereof.

17 . The mixture of claim 12 , additionally comprising an herbicide safener.

18 . The mixture of claim 17 in which the herbicide safener is cloquintocet.

19 . The mixture of claim 17 in which the herbicide safener is mefenpyr.

20 . The mixture of claim 12 in which the weight ratio of the pyridine carboxylic acid of formula (I) component to the second herbicide component is between 5:1 and 1:256.

21 . An herbicidal composition comprising an herbicidally effective amount of the herbicidal mixture of claim 12 and an agriculturally acceptable adjuvant or carrier.

22 . A method of controlling undesirable vegetation which comprises contacting the vegetation or the locus thereof with or applying to the soil or water to prevent the emergence or growth of vegetation an herbicidally effective amount of the herbicidal mixture of claim 12 .

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the herbicidal mixture is applied at an application rate of between 8 g/ha and 1200 g/ha, based on the total amount of active ingredients in the herbicidal mixture.

24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the first herbicide is applied at a rate of between 4 g/ha and 70 g/ha and the second herbicide is applied at a rate of between 4 g/ha and 1120 g/ha.

25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the components of the herbicidal mixture are applied either separately or as part of a multi part herbicidal system.

26 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the undesirable vegetation occurs in cereals.

27 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the undesirable vegetation occurs in rice.

28 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the second herbicide is aminopyralid or an agriculturally acceptable salt, ester or amide thereof, and the undesirable vegetation is chickweed, scented mayweed, birds-eye speedwell, wild pansy, lady's thumb, kochia, black mustard, cut-leaf geranium, or wild buckwheat.
