Creating and editing dynamic graphics via a web interface
Abstract
Technologies are described herein for creating and editing dynamic graphics via a World Wide Web (“Web”) interface. A Web service is provided for generating dynamic graphics in response to requests received from client computers. In response to requests from client computers, the Web service generates requested dynamic graphics and returns the generated dynamic graphics to the client computers in response to the requests. Parameters may be provided to the Web service indicating a list of text items, a layout type, a visual style, a color, and other aspects of a dynamic graphic. A user interface is also provided for creating and editing a dynamic graphic within a Web browser application.

21 . A system comprising:
a processor; and a memory communicatively coupled to the processor, the memory having computer-executable instructions that when executed by the processor, provides a method for creating a dynamic graphic, the method comprising:
receiving a first request for a first dynamic graphic, the first request including a first layout for a first set of shape elements and a list of text elements, wherein each shape element of the first set of shape elements is associated with a text element in the list of text elements;
generating the first dynamic graphic based upon the first request, wherein the first dynamic graphic comprises the first set of shape elements in the first layout, wherein each shape element of the first set of shape elements includes the text element with which the shape element is associated;
returning the first dynamic graphic in response to the first request;
receiving an indication to change the first dynamic graphic to a second layout, wherein the second layout includes a second set of shape elements;
generating a second dynamic graphic based on the indication, wherein the second dynamic graphic includes the second set of shape elements and wherein each shape element of the second set of shape elements is associated with a text element in the list of text elements; and
returning the second dynamic graphic in response to the second request.
22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the list of text elements comprises at least two text elements.
23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the first text element is associated with a first shape element in the first set of shape elements and wherein the second text element is associated with a second shape element in the first set of shape element.
24 . The system of claim 23 , further comprising receiving an indication to reorder the list of text elements, wherein the indication orders the second text element before the first text element.
25 . The system of claim 24 , further comprising updating the dynamic graphic so that the second text element is associated with the first shape element and the first text element is associated with the second shape element.
26 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the first layout is selected from a set of layout types, the layout types comprising a process diagram, a list diagram, a hierarchy diagram, a relationship diagram, a matrix diagram, and a pyramid diagram.
27 . The system of claim 26 , wherein the second layout is selected from the set of layout types, and wherein the second layout comprises a different layout type than the first layout.
28 . A method for creating a dynamic graphic, the method comprising:
receiving a first request for a first dynamic graphic, the first request including a first layout for a first set of shape elements and a list of text elements, wherein each shape element of the first set of shape elements is associated with a text element in the list of text elements; generating the first dynamic graphic based upon the first request, wherein the first dynamic graphic comprises the first set of shape elements in the first layout, wherein each shape element of the first set of shape elements includes the text element with which the shape element is associated; returning the first dynamic graphic in response to the first request; receiving an indication to change the first dynamic graphic to a second layout, wherein the second layout includes a second set of shape elements; generating a second dynamic graphic based on the indication, wherein the second dynamic graphic includes the second set of shape elements and wherein each shape element of the second set of shape elements is associated with a text element in the list of text elements; and returning the second dynamic graphic in response to the second request.
29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the list of text elements comprises at least two text elements.
30 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the first text element is associated with a first shape element in the first set of shape elements and wherein the second text element is associated with a second shape element in the first set of shape element.
31 . The method of claim 30 , further comprising receiving an indication to reorder the list of text elements, wherein the indication orders the second text element before the first text element.
32 . The method of claim 31 , further comprising updating the dynamic graphic so that the second text element is associated with the first shape element and the first text element is associated with the second shape element.
33 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the first layout is selected from a set of layout types, the layout types comprising a process diagram, a list diagram, a hierarchy diagram, a relationship diagram, a matrix diagram, and a pyramid diagram.
34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the second layout is selected from the set of layout types, and wherein the second layout comprises a different layout type than the first layout.
35 . One or more computer storage media having computer-executable components that upon execution perform a method for creating a dynamic graphic, the method comprising:
receiving a first request for a first dynamic graphic, the first request including a first layout for a first set of shape elements and a list of text elements, wherein each shape element of the first set of shape elements is associated with a text element in the list of text elements; generating the first dynamic graphic based upon the first request, wherein the first dynamic graphic comprises the first set of shape elements in the first layout, wherein each shape element of the first set of shape elements includes the text element with which the shape element is associated; returning the first dynamic graphic in response to the first request; receiving an indication to change the first dynamic graphic to a second layout, wherein the second layout includes a second set of shape elements; generating a second dynamic graphic based on the indication, wherein the second dynamic graphic includes the second set of shape elements and wherein each shape element of the second set of shape elements is associated with a text element in the list of text elements; and returning the second dynamic graphic in response to the second request.
36 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 35 , wherein the list of text elements comprises at least two text elements.
37 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 36 , wherein the first text element is associated with a first shape element in the first set of shape elements and wherein the second text element is associated with a second shape element in the first set of shape element.
38 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 37 , further comprising receiving an indication to reorder the list of text elements, wherein the indication orders the second text element before the first text element.
39 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 38 , further comprising updating the dynamic graphic so that the second text element is associated with the first shape element and the first text element is associated with the second shape element.
40 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 35 , wherein the first layout is selected from a set of layout types, the layout types comprising a process diagram, a list diagram, a hierarchy diagram, a relationship diagram, a matrix diagram, and a pyramid diagram.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
