Abstract
A packaged chemical pad may include an air tight protective packaging surrounding a chemical pad. The chemical pad may include a semi-permeable membrane and a chemical composition disposed in the semi-permeable member. The chemical composition may automatically, on activation by oxygen following the removal of the protective packaging, generate an infra red heat and water vapour. The activated chemical pad, when positioned in an insect trap, may maintain a temperature at a pad surface of between 20° C. and 40° C. and a relative humidity of at least 10% above an ambient humidity for an operating duration of at least 8 hours.

42 . A packaged chemical pad, comprising:
an air tight protective packaging surrounding a chemical pad, the chemical pad including:
a semi-permeable membrane;
a chemical composition disposed in the semi-permeable membrane, wherein the chemical composition automatically, on activation by oxygen following the removal of the protective packaging, generates an infra red heat and water vapour; and
wherein the activated chemical pad, when positioned in an insect trap, maintains a temperature at a pad surface of between 20° C. and 40° C. and a relative humidity of at least 10% above an ambient humidity for an operating duration of at least 8 hours.
43 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 42 , wherein the relative humidity generated by the chemical pad is greater than 50%.
44 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 42 , wherein the operating duration is at least 24 hours.
45 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 42 , wherein the chemical composition includes an iron powder, activated carbon, sodium chloride and a bound water source.
46 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 42 , wherein the chemical composition includes, by weight, at least 21% of a water source.
47 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 46 , wherein the water source is a bound water source.
48 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 42 , wherein the activated chemical pad defines a heat profile and a moisture profile corresponding to two intersecting sine waves, wherein the heat profile decreases and the moisture profile increases as elapsed time increases.
49 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 48 , wherein the activated chemical pad maintains a relative humidity of at least 50%.
50 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 48 , wherein the operating duration is at least 24 hours.
51 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 50 , wherein the sine wave of the heat profile and the sine wave of the moisture profile intersect between 12 and 18 hours after the chemical pad is activated.
52 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 48 , wherein the sine wave of the heat profile and the sine wave of the moisture profile intersect when at least one of the temperature is between 22° C. and 28° C. and the relative humidity is between 50% and 65%.
53 . A packaged chemical pad for an insect trap, comprising:
an air tight protective packaging; a chemical pad disposed in the protective packaging, the chemical pad including a semi-permeable membrane filled with a chemical composition, wherein the chemical composition automatically, on activation by oxygen following the removal of the protect packaging, generates an infra red heat and water vapour; wherein the activated chemical pad maintains a temperature at a pad surface of between 20° C. and 40° C. and a relative humidity of at least 50% for an operating duration of at least 8 hours.
54 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 53 , wherein the operating duration is at least 24 hours.
55 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 53 , wherein the chemical composition includes an iron powder, activated carbon, sodium chloride and a bound water source.
56 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 55 , wherein the bound water source accounts for, by weight, 25% of the chemical composition.
57 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 53 , wherein the chemical composition includes, by weight, at least 21% of a water source.
58 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 57 , wherein the water source is a bound water source.
59 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 53 , wherein the activated chemical pad defines a heat profile and a moisture profile corresponding to two intersecting sine waves, wherein the heat profile decreases and the moisture profile increases as elapsed time increases.
60 . The packaged chemical pad as claimed in claim 59 , wherein the sine wave of the heat profile and the sine wave of the moisture profile intersect when at least one of the temperature is between 22° C. and 28° C. and the relative humidity is between 50% and 65%.
