Holster for Pistol Attached Only to Site Mount

Abstract

A holster that, rather than receiving a handgun, is attached to a sight mount that itself is attached to the rail system of a handgun. The the site mount which is used to mount an optical sight attaches to the handgun by a tactical rail, 1913 picatinny rail, accessory rail, light rail, weaver style rail, or any other rail system. Since the holster is adapted to fit the sight mount, it thus can be used with many different makes and models of handguns.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A holster for a handgun comprising a member configured to enclose a space and to have at least one open end, said member adapted to fit over and grip a removable gun site mount that itself is removably mounted to a handgun. 
     
     
         2 . The holster of  claim 1  wherein the member has an open top. 
     
     
         3 . The holster of  claim 1  further comprising a plurality of mounting holes on said member configured to match a particular make of handgun. 
     
     
         4 . The holster of  claim 1  wherein said member is molded plastic. 
     
     
         5 . A holster for a handgun of the type having a rail system that can receive a removable gunsight mount, comprising:
 a member having a pair of sidewalls configured to enclose a space, the sidewalls attached to each other at at least one point;   a pair of fingers extending inward from the sidewalls on each side adapted to grip the removable gunsight mount where the gunsight mount contacts the rail system of a particular make of handgun.   
     
     
         6 . The holster of  claim 5  wherein the member has an open top. 
     
     
         7 . The holster of  claim 5  further comprising a plurality of mounting holes on said member configured to match a particular make of handgun. 
     
     
         8 . The holster of  claim 5  wherein said member is molded plastic. 
     
     
         9 . A method for holding a handgun with a removable gun site mount comprising providing a holster that attaches to said removable gun site mount but not to said handgun itself. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9  wherein the holster includes sidewalls and a pair of fingers extending inward from the sidewalls on each side adapted to grip the removable gunsight mount where the gunsight mount contacts the rail system of a particular make of handgun. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9  wherein the holster has an open top. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 9  further comprising a plurality of mounting holes on said holster configured to match a particular make of handgun. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 9  wherein said sidewalls and fingers are molded plastic.
