System and method for providing processing of financial transactions
Abstract
A system and method for providing one or more client systems for communicating with a host system over a network. The client systems use a scanner to convert a paper form of a check, coupon, or other paper document to a digital representation and then the client systems send the digital representation over a network to the host system for storage. The host system archives the digital representation and determines the appropriate processing stream for a transaction related to the paper document (e.g. coupon, check), via a decisioning engine, based on a set of predefined stream selection rules. The host system then communicates the transaction to a back end transaction destination, according to the selected processing stream. Examples of the transaction destination can include ACH, Reproduce Paper, and Remittance. The host system can make use of a data buffer system for coordinating the storage of the digital representations in the host system as well as coordinating the respective settlement process, a distributed decisioning environment for assisting the host system in decisioning of the digital representations, and a hierarchy for coordinating the configuration of the host and client systems as well as coordinating the settlement process for the digital representations.

21 . A server for providing electronic payment processing of transaction data including at least a digital image of a financial transaction, the server in communication with a plurality of client mobile devices over a communications network, the server comprising:
a first storage configured as a temporary storage of the transaction data; a second storage configured as an archival storage of the transaction data; and a processor configured to implement instructions of:
receive the transaction data from a client mobile device of the plurality of client mobile devices through a web portal accessible by the plurality of client mobile devices over the communication network;
store the transaction data in the temporary storage including a digital image captured by an image capture device of the client mobile device;
communicate a storage status indicator to the client mobile device indicating the transaction data as received by the server;
determine whether the digital image satisfies an exception criteria of a minimum information exception defining the digital image contains a minimum amount of transactional information;
transfer the transaction data to the second storage based on the exception criteria being satisfied; and
update the storage status indicator as a result of said transfer and communicate to the client mobile device the transaction data having the storage status indicator as stored in the archival storage.
22 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the processor is further configured to implement instructions of: assigning a priority indicator to the transaction data, the priority indicator representing a receipt time of the captured paper transaction data by the first storage.

The server of claim 21 , wherein the transaction data includes information of application of a local decisioning filter by the client mobile device to examine whether the digital image satisfied the exception criteria of the minimum information exception defining the digital image contained the minimum amount of transactional information.
24 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the server has a decisioning filter for application by the processor to examine whether the digital image satisfied the exception criteria of the minimum information exception defining the digital image contained the minimum amount of transactional information.

The server of claim 23 , wherein the server has a decisioning filter for application by the processor to override a decisioning result of the local decisioning filter that the digital image satisfied the exception criteria of the minimum information exception defining the digital image contained the minimum amount of transactional information.
26 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the server has a decisioning filter of a set of decisioning filters for determining routing of a payment between a transaction starting point of the transaction data and a settlement endpoint of the transaction data.
27 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the client mobile device has a decisioning filter of a set of decisioning filters for determining routing of a payment between a transaction starting point of the transaction data and a settlement endpoint of the transaction data.
28 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the processor is further configured to implement instructions of: receiving a transaction status request from the client mobile device and making available the digital image in the second storage as retrievable by the client mobile device.
29 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the transaction data includes at least one of: a date of capture of the digital image; a reference number of the digital image; or capture site information of the digital image.
30 . The server of claim 21 , wherein the storage status indicator includes an exception status indicating that the digital image is not archive worthy.
31 . A method implemented by a web service for providing electronic payment processing of transaction data including at least a digital image of a financial transaction, the web service in communication with a plurality of client mobile devices over a communications network, the method comprising the steps implemented by a processor of:
receive the transaction data from a client mobile device of the plurality of client mobile devices through a web portal accessible by the plurality of client mobile devices over the communication network; store the transaction data in a first storage including a digital image captured by an image capture device of the client mobile device, the first storage configured as a temporary storage of the transaction data; communicate a storage status indicator to the client mobile device indicating the transaction data as received by the server; determine whether the digital image satisfies an exception criteria of a minimum information exception defining the digital image contains a minimum amount of transactional information; transfer the transaction data to a second storage based on the exception criteria being satisfied, the second storage configured as an archival storage of the transaction data; and update the storage status indicator as a result of said transfer and communicate to the client mobile device the transaction data having the storage status indicator as stored in the archival storage.
32 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the processor is further configured to implement instructions of: assigning a priority indicator to the transaction data, the priority indicator representing a receipt time of the captured paper transaction data by the first storage.

The method of claim 31 , wherein the transaction data includes information of application of a local decisioning filter by the client mobile device to examine whether the digital image satisfied the exception criteria of the minimum information exception defining the digital image contained the minimum amount of transactional information.
34 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the server has a decisioning filter for application by the processor to examine whether the digital image satisfied the exception criteria of the minimum information exception defining the digital image contained the minimum amount of transactional information.

The method of claim 33 , wherein the server has a decisioning filter for application by the processor to override a decisioning result of the local decisioning filter that the digital image satisfied the exception criteria of the minimum information exception defining the digital image contained the minimum amount of transactional information.
36 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the server has a decisioning filter of a set of decisioning filters for determining routing of a payment between a transaction starting point of the transaction data and a settlement endpoint of the transaction data.
37 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the client mobile device has a decisioning filter of a set of decisioning filters for determining routing of a payment between a transaction starting point of the transaction data and a settlement endpoint of the transaction data.
38 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the processor is further configured to implement instructions of: receiving a transaction status request from the client mobile device and making available the digital image in the second storage as retrievable by the client mobile device.
39 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the transaction data includes at least one of: a date of capture of the digital image; a reference number of the digital image; or capture site information of the digital image.
