Abstract

Aspects of a method and system for customized full ephemeris compatible with standard AGPS network devices allows a GPS enabled handset to receive real-time full ephemeris from an AGPS server for calculating a position fix. The real-time full ephemeris may be generated at the AGPS server in response to one or more request for real-time full ephemeris from the GPS enabled handset. The AGPS server may be configured to provide fresh full ephemeris generated at smaller intervals such as every 10-15 minutes as approximated real-time full ephemeris. The generated real-time full ephemeris or fresh full ephemeris may be communicated to the GPS enabled handset periodically or aperiodically. Various predicted real-time full ephemeris or predicted fresh full ephemeris compatible with various standards may be generated via Short Term Orbits (STO) technology.

 a processor configured to:
receive ephemeris data corresponding to a location of the satellite from the satellite, the ephemeris data being valid for a first validation time,
receive a request for the ephemeris data from a mobile device during the first validation time, and
calculate approximate ephemeris data that is valid for a second validation time extending beyond the first validation time; and
communicate the approximate ephemeris data to the mobile device; and
a memory that stores instructions for calculating the approximate ephemeris data.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to calculate the approximate ephemeris data based upon the ephemeris data which is valid for a period of time between when the request was received and the first validation time.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the approximate ephemeris data comprises:
an approximate location of the satellite over a second period of time between when the request was received and the second validation time.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to calculate the approximate ephemeris data at a plurality of intervals, each of the plurality of intervals being less than a satellite ephemeris updating period.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the processor is further configured to calculate the approximate ephemeris data based upon the ephemeris data which is valid for a period of time between a most recent interval from among the plurality of intervals and the first validation time

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the approximate ephemeris data comprises:
an approximate location of the satellite over a second period of time between the most recent interval and the second validation time.

7 . A method for generating ephemeris data, the method comprising:
receiving ephemeris data corresponding to a location of a satellite from the satellite, the ephemeris data being valid for a first validation time; receiving a request for the ephemeris data from a mobile device during the first validation time; calculating approximate ephemeris data that is valid for a second validation time extending beyond the first validation time; and communicating the approximate ephemeris data to the mobile device.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the approximate ephemeris data is based upon the ephemeris data which is valid for a period of time between when the request was received and the first validation time.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the calculating the approximate ephemeris data comprises calculating an approximate location of the satellite over a second period of time between when the request was received and the second validation time.

10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the calculating the approximate ephemeris data comprises calculating the approximate ephemeris data at a plurality of intervals, each of the plurality of intervals being less than a satellite ephemeris updating period.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the calculating the approximate ephemeris data further comprises calculating the approximate ephemeris data based upon the ephemeris data which is valid for a period of time between a most recent interval from among the plurality of intervals and the first validation time.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the approximate ephemeris data comprises an approximate location of the satellite over a second period of time between the most recent interval and the second validation time.

13 . A system for generating location assistance data, the system comprising:
 a processor configured to:
receive ephemeris data corresponding to a location of a satellite from the satellite, the ephemeris data being valid for a first validation time,
receive a request for the location assistance data from a mobile device during the first validation time.
initialize generation of approximate location assistance data in response to the request from the mobile device, and
communicate the approximate location assistance data to the mobile device; and
a memory that stores instructions for calculating the approximate location assistance data
