Systems and methods for value-based decision support
Abstract
An example system includes a care decision subsystem to process a patient problem and clinical patient attribute to (a) identify a plurality of patient care path options for evaluation by a patient and/or provider and to (b) generate a mashup of the plurality of patient care path options based on a combination of patient-specific criteria including (i) clinical efficacy and (ii) cost associated with each of the plurality of patient care path options. Each of the plurality of patient care path options is generated for visual representation to be displayed and utilized in an evaluation by the patient/provider with respect to an objective associated with the patient problem. A user interface displays the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options for interaction to facilitate a data-driven selection of at least one of the plurality of patient care path options based on comparative efficacy and cost.
Claims

a processor connected to a memory, wherein the processor is configured by executing instructions stored in the memory which alter the processor to implement the system comprising:
a care decision subsystem to receive a patient problem and at least one clinical patient attribute, the care decision subsystem to process the patient problem and the at least one clinical patient attribute to (a) identify a plurality of patient care path options for evaluation by at least one of the patient and a provider and to (b) generate a mashup of the plurality of patient care path options based on a combination of patient-specific criteria including (i) clinical efficacy and (ii) cost associated with each of the plurality of patient care path options, each of the plurality of patient care path options generated for visual representation to be displayed and utilized in an evaluation by at least one of the patient and the provider with respect to an objective associated with the patient problem; and
a user interface to be accessible by the patient and the provider to graphically display the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options for interaction and review by at least one of the patient and the provider to facilitate a data-driven selection of at least one of the plurality of patient care path options based on comparative efficacy and cost,
wherein the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options is dynamically updateable for graphical display and interaction based on user input with respect to the user interface.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interface comprises a Web-accessible graphical user interface.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interface includes at least one link to view additional information regarding a selected patient care path option.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the cost and clinical efficacy is presented at least one of graphically and alphanumerically via the mashup in the user interface.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the care decision subsystem dynamically generates and updates the mashup based on patient specific criteria as the patient specific criteria is provided to the system.
6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the care decision subsystem organizes the mashup according to a ranking of the plurality of patient care path options according to at least the patient-specific criteria.
7 . A tangible computer-readable storage medium having a set of instructions stored thereon which, when executed, instruct a processor to implement a multi-dimensional clinical decision support system, the system comprising:
a care decision subsystem to receive a patient problem and at least one clinical patient attribute, the care decision subsystem to process the patient problem and the at least one clinical patient attribute to (a) identify a plurality of patient care path options for evaluation by at least one of the patient and a provider and to (b) generate a mashup of the plurality of patient care path options based on a combination of patient-specific criteria including (i) clinical efficacy and (ii) cost associated with each of the plurality of patient care path options, each of the plurality of patient care path options generated for visual representation to be displayed and utilized in an evaluation by at least one of the patient and the provider with respect to an objective associated with the patient problem; and a user interface to be accessible by the patient and the provider to graphically display the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options for interaction and review by at least one of the patient and the provider to facilitate a data-driven selection of at least one of the plurality of patient care path options based on comparative efficacy and cost, wherein the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options is dynamically updateable for graphical display and interaction based on user input with respect to the user interface.
8 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the user interface comprises a Web-accessible graphical user interface.
9 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the user interface includes at least one link to view additional information regarding a selected patient care path option.
10 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the cost and clinical efficacy is presented at least one of graphically and alphanumerically via the mashup in the user interface.
11 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the care decision subsystem dynamically generates and updates the mashup based on patient specific criteria as the patient specific criteria is provided to the system.
12 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the care decision subsystem organizes the mashup according to a ranking of the plurality of patient care path options according to at least the patient-specific criteria.
13 . A computer-implemented method to provide value-based clinical decision support, said method comprising:
receiving, using a processor, a patient problem and at least one clinical patient attribute; processing, using the processor, the patient problem and the at least one clinical patient attribute to (a) identify a plurality of patient care path options for evaluation by at least one of the patient and a provider and to (b) generate a mashup of the plurality of patient care path options based on a combination of patient-specific criteria including (i) clinical efficacy and (ii) cost associated with each of the plurality of patient care path options, each of the plurality of patient care path options generated for visual representation to be displayed and utilized in an evaluation by at least one of the patient and the provider with respect to an objective associated with the patient problem; and graphically displaying, using the processor via a user interface to be accessible by the patient and the provider, the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options for interaction and review by at least one of the patient and the provider to facilitate a data-driven selection of at least one of the plurality of patient care path options based on comparative efficacy and cost, wherein the mashup of the plurality of patient care path options is dynamically updateable for graphical display and interaction based on user input with respect to the user interface.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the user interface comprises a Web-accessible graphical user interface.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the user interface includes at least one link to view additional information regarding a selected patient care path option.
16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein at least one of the cost and clinical efficacy is presented at least one of graphically and alphanumerically via the mashup in the user interface.
17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the care decision subsystem dynamically generates and updates the mashup based on patient specific criteria as the patient specific criteria is provided to the system.
18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the care decision subsystem organizes the mashup according to a ranking of the plurality of patient care path options according to at least the patient-specific criteria.
19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the cost comprises a) at least one of a discrete and a total cost and b) a portion of the cost payable by the patient according to patient insurance policy information.
