Abstract

The present invention relates to methods for the restoration of a decayed portion of an anterior tooth or re-restoration of a previously filled anterior tooth, and to dental matrices and composite resin dispensers that may be used in the methods for the restoration of a decayed portion of an anterior tooth.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for dispensing composite from a dental composite dispenser, the method comprising;
 loading a source of composite in an end section of the dispenser, the source of composite having a dispensing orifice;   attaching a hollow step down dispensing tip to the source of composite such that the step down dispensing tip is in fluid communication with the dispensing orifice of the source of composite;   heating composite in the source of composite; and   extruding the heated composite out of an exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 extrusion of the composite from the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is only practicable if the composite is heated. 
 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 an inside diameter of the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is 16% to 64% of an inside diameter of the dispensing orifice of the source of composite. 
 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 an inside diameter of the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is half or less of an inside diameter of the dispensing orifice of the source of composite. 
 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 an inside diameter of the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is in the range of about 0.4 millimeters to about 1.6 millimeters. 
 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 the source of composite is a capsule. 
 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 the source of composite is a syringe. 
 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 the source of composite is a chamber in the end section of the housing. 
 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 the composite is a paste composite including greater than 30% by volume filler. 
 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 the composite is a paste composite including greater than 50% by volume filler. 
 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1  wherein:
 the composite is a paste composite including greater than 70% by volume filler. 
 
     
     
         12 . A method for dispensing composite from a dental composite dispenser, the method comprising;
 heating a source of composite having a dispensing orifice;   thereafter loading the source of composite in an end section of the dispenser;   attaching a hollow step down dispensing tip to the source of composite such that the step down dispensing tip is in fluid communication with the dispensing orifice of the source of composite; and   extruding the heated composite out of an exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12  wherein:
 extrusion of the composite from the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is only practicable if the composite is heated. 
 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12  wherein:
 an inside diameter of the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is 16% to 64% of an inside diameter of the dispensing orifice of the source of composite.

 an inside diameter of the exit orifice of the step down dispensing tip is half or less of an inside diameter of the dispensing orifice of the source of composite.

 the source of composite is a syringe.
