Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Uses Therefor

Abstract

Methods of treating autoimmune diseases, allergic responses, cancer, or inflammatory diseases in an animal, promoting wound healing, repairing epithelial damage and promoting angiogenesis in an organ or tissue of an animal by administering to the animal mesenchymal stem cells in an effective amount.

1 . A method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal comprising
 administering genetically unmanipulated mesenchymal stem cells.   
     
     
         2 . The method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal of  claim 1 , wherein the genetically unmanipulated mesenchymal stem cells are administered in combination with an anti-inflammatory drug. 
     
     
         3 . The method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal of  claim 1 , wherein the animal is a mammal. 
     
     
         4 . The method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal of  claim 3 , wherein the mammal is a human. 
     
     
         5 . The method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal of  claim 1 , wherein the inflammatory bowel disease is Crohn's Disease. 
     
     
         6 . The method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal of  claim 1 , wherein the inflammatory bowel disease is ulcerative colitis. 
     
     
         7 . The method of treating autoimmune encephalomyelitis, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel diseases in an animal of  claim 1 , wherein the inflammatory bowel disease is Graft Versus Host Disease of the gut.
