Baby Carrier

Abstract

An improved baby carrier is disclosed that includes a monopod leg coupled to a sitting element for supporting the weight of a baby or toddler. In some implementations, the baby carrier includes a detachable sitting element coupled to the monopod leg to support the carrying load and an attachment harness to attach the sitting element and monopod leg to a carrying individual. The monopod leg can be telescopic and include controls for coarse and fine height adjustment of the sitting element, covering a range from, for example, below to above the waist level of the carrying individual. The attachment harness securely attaches the sitting element and monopod leg to a waistband worn by the carrying individual using an attachment cable. In some implementations, the attachment harness can include a baby waistband that attaches to the waistband and/or shoulder straps worn by the carrying individual using attachment cables and clips.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A baby carrier, comprising:
 a monopod leg;   a sitting element attached to the monopod leg and configured for supporting a baby or toddler;   an attachment harness including an adult waistband, shoulder straps, and a baby waistband,   wherein the adult waistband and shoulder straps are configured for securing the sitting element or monopod leg to a person carrying the baby or toddler, and   wherein the baby waistband is configured for encircling a waist of the baby or toddler and securing the baby or toddler to the attachment harness.   
     
     
         2 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the monopod leg is telescopic. 
     
     
         3 . The baby carrier of  claim 2  wherein the monopod leg includes length controls. 
     
     
         4 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the monopod leg includes a mounting head configured for mounting the sitting element to the monopod leg. 
     
     
         5 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the monopod leg has a non-skid tip. 
     
     
         6 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the monopod leg includes a non-sink cover tip. 
     
     
         7 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the monopod leg includes a height locking mechanism to support switching between length extension and retraction when changing between standing and moving modes. 
     
     
         8 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the monopod leg includes a roller wheel with extension and retraction controls. 
     
     
         9 . The baby carrier of  claim 4  wherein baby sitting element is detachable, with mounting tracks or mechanisms that mate with the mounting head. 
     
     
         10 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the sitting element is configured to have a comfortable sitting profile.

         12 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein the baby carrier is an add-on component to conventional baby carrier without the monopod leg. 
     
     
         13 . The baby carrier of  claim 1  wherein in action, the monopod leg is used as a multifunctional device to mount other objects.

         15 . The baby carrier of  claim 1 , wherein the adult waistband and shoulder straps are configured for securing the sitting element or monopod leg to the person carrying the baby or toddler while the baby waistband encircles the waist of the baby or toddler. 
     
     
         16 . The baby carrier of  claim 1 , wherein the adult waistband and shoulder straps are configured for securing the sitting element or monopod leg to the person carrying the baby while not encircling the baby or toddler.
