Abstract
Methods and devices to monitor an analyte in body fluid are provided. Embodiments include continuous or discrete acquisition of analyte related data from a transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor automatically or on demand upon request from a user.

1 . A glucose monitoring system, comprising:
an in vivo glucose sensor; sensor electronics operatively coupled to the glucose sensor to process signals received from the glucose sensor; an infusion device including an RF transmitter to transmit the processed signals received from the sensor electronics; an interface device including an RF receiver to receive the processed signals from the RF transmitter of the infusion device, the interface device further including a Bluetooth communication interface to communicate the received processed data; and a mobile telephone that receives the data associated with a monitored glucose level from the interface device over a Bluetooth communication connection with the interface device.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processed signals received by the interface device from the RF transmitter of the infusion device includes one or more of medication delivery information, real time monitored glucose data, and glucose trend information.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile telephone outputs the processed data associated with the monitored glucose level.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the RF transmitter of the infusion device generates data from the received processed signals for transmission to the interface device, the generated data including real time monitored glucose level information.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor electronics is programmed to communicate the signals generated by the glucose sensor at a predetermined time interval to the infusion device.
6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile telephone displays one or more of real time monitored glucose data and glucose trend information received from the interface device over the Bluetooth communication connection.
7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the infusion device displays real time glucose level information based on the processed signals.
8 . A glucose monitoring system, comprising:
a receiver that receives signals generated by a glucose sensor corresponding to monitored glucose level; an interface device including a radio frequency (RF) communication interface that receives data associated with monitored glucose level over an RF communication link from the receiver, the interface further including a Bluetooth communication interface for communicating the received data associated with the monitored glucose level; and a mobile telephone that receives the data associated with the monitored glucose level from the interface device over a Bluetooth communication connection with the interface device.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the receiver is programmed to receive the signals generated by the glucose sensor at a predetermined time interval.
10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the predetermined time interval is programmable.
11 . An apparatus, comprising:
a data processing unit; an RF receiver operatively coupled to the data processing unit to receive data associated with monitored glucose level over an RF communication link from a first remote location; and a Bluetooth communication interface operatively coupled to the data processing unit to communicate the received data associated with the monitored glucose level over a Bluetooth communication link to a second remote location.
12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the first remote location includes an infusion device and the second remote location includes a mobile telephone.
