System and method for temporarily enabling proprietary transit payments on a hotel room key

Abstract

One embodiment of the invention is directed to a system comprising a database and a server computer coupled to the database, wherein the server computer comprises a processor and a computer-readable storage medium coupled to the processor, the computer readable storage medium comprising code executable by the processor for implementing a method comprising: receiving transit transaction data, determining a hotel based on the transit transaction data, and sending the transit transaction data to the hotel, wherein the hotel places a transit charge based on the transit transaction data onto a hotel folio. Another embodiment of the invention is directed to a method, the method comprising receiving transit transaction data, determining a hotel based on the transit transaction data, and sending the transit transaction data to the hotel, wherein the hotel places a transit charge based on the transit transaction data onto a hotel folio

         21 . A method comprising:
 receiving transaction data;   determining a hotel based on the transaction data; and   sending the transaction data to the hotel, wherein the hotel places a charge based on the transaction data onto a hotel folio.

The method of  claim 21 , wherein the transaction data includes a payment application identifier of a payment application, wherein the payment application is embedded in a portable device involved in a transaction indicated by the transaction data, and wherein the hotel is determined based on the payment application identifier. 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 22 , further comprising:
 updating a stored value on the portable device based on access to a service provided by a business, wherein the access is controlled using the portable device.   
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 23 , wherein the stored value is updated based on use of the service. 
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 23 , wherein the service includes transit service, and wherein the business includes a transit system. 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the transaction data includes information about a transaction involving an application embedded on a portable device, and wherein the portable device is involved in the transaction. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 26 , wherein the application includes a hotel room key application, and wherein the hotel room key application interfaces with the portable device to access a room at the hotel. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the transaction data include an identifier associated with the portable device, and wherein the identifier is used to place the charge on the hotel folio. 
     
     
         29 . A system comprising:
 a memory; and   one or more processors coupled to the memory and configured to:
 receive transaction data; 
 determine a hotel based on the transaction data; and 
 send the transaction data to the hotel, wherein the hotel places a charge based on the transaction data onto a hotel folio.

The system of  claim 29 , wherein the transaction data includes a payment application identifier of a payment application, wherein the payment application is embedded in a portable device involved in a transaction indicated by the transaction data, and wherein the hotel is determined based on the payment application identifier. 
     
     
         31 . The system of  claim 29 , wherein the transaction data includes information about a transaction involving an application embedded on a portable device, and wherein the portable device is involved in the transaction. 
     
     
         32 . A method comprising:
 initiating a data transfer at an access control device, wherein initiating the data transfer causes the access control device to initiate a validation process; and   performing a calculation, wherein a result of the calculation is transmitted to a hotel system, and wherein the hotel system places a charge based on the result of the calculation onto a hotel folio.   
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the data transfer is between the access control device and a payment system. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the data transfer is performed using a payment application embedded in the access control device. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 34 , wherein the validation process includes determining whether the payment application is on a blacklist. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the validation process includes verifying a stored value on the access control device. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 34 , wherein the validation process controls access for an access system of a service provided by a business. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the service is a transit service, and wherein the business includes a transit system. 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the calculation includes a fee for use of the access control device to access a transit system. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the access control device is configured by the hotel system. 
     
     
         41 . A system comprising:
 a memory; and   one or more processors coupled to the memory and configured to:
 initiate a data transfer with an access control device, wherein initiating the data transfer causes the access control device to initiate a validation process; and 
 perform a calculation, wherein the result of the calculation is transmitted to a hotel system, and wherein the hotel system places a charge based on the result of the calculation onto a hotel folio.
