Abstract

The disclosed embodiments provide systems and methods for authenticating electronic transactions. A system for authenticating electronic transactions may include one or more memory devices storing instructions and one or more processors configured to receive transaction data associated with a transaction and further associated with a customer. The transaction data includes a customer identifier. The one or more processors may be configured to identify a customer account associated with the customer based on the customer identifier, and determine an authentication tier level associated with the transaction. The authentication tier level may reflect one or more levels of authentication required to authorize the transaction. The one or more processors may be configured to receive authentication data associated with a customer, and determine whether the authentication data satisfies the authentication tier level associated with the transaction and authorize the transaction when the authentication data satisfies the authentication tier level.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system for authenticating electronic transactions, comprising:
 one or more memory devices storing instructions; and   one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to:
 receive transaction data associated with a transaction and further associated with a customer, wherein the transaction data includes a customer identifier, 
 identify a customer account associated with the customer based on the customer identifier, 
 determine an authentication tier level associated with the transaction, the authentication tier level reflecting one or more levels of authentication required to authorize the transaction, 
 receive authentication data associated with the customer, 
 determine whether the authentication data satisfies the authentication tier level associated with the transaction, and 
 authorize the transaction when the authentication data satisfies the authentication tier level. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the authentication tier level is associated with at least a first authentication tier and a second authentication tier. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:
 prompt the customer to provide first authentication tier data associated with the first authentication tier;   receive first customer authentication tier data associated with the first authentication tier;   determine whether the authentication data satisfies the first authentication tier;   prompt the customer to provide second authentication tier data associated for the second authentication tier;   receive second customer authentication tier data associated with the second authentication tier;   determine whether the authentication data satisfies the second authentication tier; and   authorize the transaction based on whether the first customer authentication tier data satisfies the first authentication tier data and whether the second customer authentication tier data satisfies the second authentication tier data.   
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the authentication data comprises biometric data. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 4 , wherein biometric data includes at least one of finger print, voice recognition, facial recognition, retinal scan, iris scan, palm vein scan, and heartbeat or pulse pattern. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the transaction data further includes a transaction amount. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the authentication tier level associated with the transaction is based in part on the transaction amount. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the customer account is associated with corresponding customer identification data. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:
 compare the received authentication data with the customer identification data;   determine that the received authentication data matches the customer identification data; and   determine that the authentication tier level is satisfied.   
     
     
         10 . A computer-implemented method for authenticating electronic transactions, comprising:
 receiving transaction data associated with a transaction and further associated with a customer, wherein the transaction data includes a customer identifier;   identifying a customer account associated with the customer based on the customer identifier;   determining an authentication tier level associated with the transaction, the authentication tier level reflecting one or more levels of authentication required to authorize the transaction;   receiving authentication data associated with the customer;   determining whether the authentication data satisfies the at least one authentication tier; and   authorizing the transaction when the authentication data satisfies the authentication tier level.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the authentication tier level includes at least a first authentication tier and a second authentication tier. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , further including:
 prompting the customer to provide first authentication tier data associated with the first authentication tier;   receiving first customer authentication tier data associated with the first authentication tier;   determining whether the authentication data satisfies the first authentication tier;   prompting the customer to provide second authentication tier data associated for the second authentication tier;   receiving second customer authentication tier data associated with the second authentication tier;   determining whether the authentication data satisfies the second authentication tier; and   authorizing the transaction based on whether the first customer authentication tier data satisfies the first authentication tier data and whether the second customer authentication tier data satisfies the second authentication tier data.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the authentication data comprises biometric data. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein biometric data includes at least one of finger print, voice recognition, facial recognition, retinal scan, iris scan, palm vein scan, and heartbeat or pulse pattern. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the transaction data further includes a transaction amount. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the authentication tier level associated with the transaction is based in part on the transaction amount. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the customer account is associated with corresponding customer identification data. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , further including:
 compare the received authentication data with the customer identification data;   determine that the received authentication data matches the customer identification data; and   determine that the authentication tier level is satisfied.   
     
     
         19 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
 receiving transaction data associated with a transaction and further associated with a customer, wherein the transaction data includes a customer identifier;   identifying a customer account associated with the customer based on the customer identifier;   determining an authentication tier level associated with the transaction, the authentication tier level reflecting one or more levels of authentication required to authorize the transaction;   receiving authentication data associated with the customer;   determining whether the authentication data satisfies the at least one authentication tier; and   authorizing the transaction when the authentication data satisfies the authentication tier level.   
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 19 , the instructions further executable by the processor to perform operations comprising:
 prompting the customer to provide first authentication tier data associated with the first authentication tier;   receiving first customer authentication tier data associated with the first authentication tier;   determining whether the authentication data satisfies the first authentication tier;   prompting the customer to provide second authentication tier data associated for the second authentication tier;   receiving second customer authentication tier data associated with the second authentication tier;   determining whether the authentication data satisfies the second authentication tier; and   authorizing the transaction based on whether the first customer authentication tier data satisfies the first authentication tier and whether the second customer authentication tier data satisfies the second authentication tier.   
     
     
         21 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 19 , the instructions further executable by the processor to perform operations comprising:
 compare the received authentication data with the customer identification data;   determine that the received authentication data matches the customer identification data; and   determine that the authentication tier level is satisfied.
