Abstract
Embodiments are directed to compositions and methods for treating parasitic infections. Compounds have been identified from a library of anti-cancer drugs that serve as suitable agents for targeting trypanosomatids.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for treating a trypanosomatid infection in a subject, comprising administering to the subject a pharmaceutically effective amount of a α,β-unsaturated ketone.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the α,β-unsaturated ketone is NC2459, NC884, or NC901.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the α,β-unsaturated ketone is NC2459.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the trypanosomatid is a Leishmania.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the trypanosomatid is Leishmania major.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the trypanosomatid is a Trypanosome.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the trypanosomatid is Trypanosoma cruzi.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering a second anti-trypanosomatid therapy.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the second anti-trypanosomatid therapy is an antibiotic or vaccine therapy.
10 . An anti-trypanosomatid composition for use in treating trypanosomatid infection comprising an α,β-unsaturated ketone.
11 . The composition of claim 10 , wherein the α,β-unsaturated ketone is NC2459, NC884, or NC901.
12 . The composition of claim 10 , wherein the α,β-unsaturated ketone is NC2459.
13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the trypanosomatid is a Leishmania.

17 . An anti-parasite composition comprising pharmaceutically effective amount of an enone comprising an α,β-unsaturated ketones.
18 . The composition of claim 17 , wherein the enone comprising an α,β-unsaturated ketones is Bis[3,5-bis(benzylidene)-4-oxo-l-piperidinyl]amides derivative.
19 . The composition of claim 18 , wherein the Bis[3,5-bis(benzylidene)-4-oxo-1-piperidinyl]amides derivative is NC2459.
