Loose powder compact with compressible platform

Abstract

Disclosed is a compact for containing a loose powder, such as cosmetic finishing powder, including a base, a cover, a sifter, and a platform compressible against the sifter. The platform may comprise an inner portion flexibly coupled to an outer portion via a gasket disposed on at least a portion of a bottom surface of the inner portion. The compact may have an open position and a closed position. In the closed position, the cover may apply a downward force on the inner portion, compressing the gasket against the sifter and creating a seal to isolate the loose powder.

         2 . A cosmetic compact comprising:
 a base;   a cover;   a sifter composed of a rigid material disposed between the base and the cover; and   a platform coupled to the base, the platform comprising a depressible portion;   wherein the compact has at least an open configuration and a closed configuration, in which:
 in the closed position, the depressible portion is pressed toward the base to abut the sifter, and 
 in the open position, the depressible portion is disposed separate from the sifter. 
   
     
     
         3 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is configured, relative to the depressible portion, such that:
 in the closed position the cover presses the depressible portion of the platform toward the base to abut the sifter; and 
 in the open position, the cover does not press the depressible portion of the platform to abut the sifter. 
 
     
     
         4 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is coupled to the base with a single degree of freedom. 
     
     
         5 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is coupled to the base with a hinge for a pivotably coupling therebetween. 
     
     
         6 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is coupled to the base with multiple degrees of freedom. 
     
     
         7 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is coupled to the base to facilitate transition from the closed position to the open position by a lifting motion. 
     
     
         8 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is coupled to the base to facilitate transition from the closed position to the open position by a twisting or rotating motion. 
     
     
         9 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the cover is coupled to the base to facilitate transition from the closed position to the open position by a sliding motion. 
     
     
         10 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the base is rectangular. 
     
     
         11 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the base is circular. 
     
     
         12 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2  wherein the base is oval. 
     
     
         13 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2 , wherein the depressible portion is flexibly coupled to an outer portion of the platform with an elastomeric gasket. 
     
     
         14 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 13 , wherein the elastomeric gasket comprises a bottom surface of the depressible portion and compresses against the sifter to seal the sifter in the closed position. 
     
     
         15 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 14 , further comprising a liner on the bottom surface of the elastomeric gasket. 
     
     
         16 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 2 , further comprising a pot disposed below the sifter for containing a cosmetic product. 
     
     
         17 . A cosmetic container comprising:
 a base;   a cover coupled to the base and movable between an open position and a closed position;   a perforated divider disposed in the base; and   a platform positioned above the perforated divider, the platform including flexible portion configured, relative to the cover, such that:
 when the cover is closed, the flexible portion of the platform is pressed against the perforated divider; and 
 when the cover is opened, the flexible portion of the platform sits away from the perforated divider. 
   
     
     
         18 . The cosmetic container of  claim 17  wherein the flexible portion of the platform flexes between a first configuration when the cover is closed and a second configuration when the cover is open. 
     
     
         19 . The cosmetic compact of  claim 17 , further comprising a pot disposed below the sifter for containing a cosmetic product. 
     
     
         20 . A method of sealing a cosmetic product within a cosmetic compact, wherein the cosmetic compact includes:
 a base containing the pot with having the cosmetic product therein and an opening for accessing the cosmetic product;   a cover;   a sifter composed of a rigid material disposed between the base and the cover and over the pot; and   a platform coupled to the base, the platform comprising a depressible portion;   wherein the compact has at least an open configuration and a closed configuration, in which:
 in the closed position, the depressible portion is pressed toward the base to abut the sifter, and 
 in the open position, the depressible portion is disposed separate from the sifter; 
   the method comprising closing the cover to thereby depress the depressible portion to abut the sifter.
