Claims

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method for recycling synthetic turf that includes combining a plurality of synthetic turf fragments with additives to form a mixture and extruding the mixture. The method produces a recycled material suitable for use as infill in a synthetic turf. Accordingly, an infill for synthetic turf and a synthetic turf including that infill are disclosed herein.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for recycling synthetic turf comprising the steps of:
 (a) combining a plurality of synthetic turf fragments with at least one modifier, filler, or colorant to form a mixture wherein the turf fragments include infill contained therein;   (b) removing from at least 80% to at least 98% of the infill from the synthetic turf fragments before combining them with the modifier, filler, or colorant;   (c) extruding the mixture to form an extrudate; and   (d) cutting the extrudate into pellets.   
     
     
         2 . The pellets made by the method of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         3 . An infill comprising the pellets of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         4 . The infill of  claim 3 , further comprising a filler, sand or rubber, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         5 . A synthetic turf comprising the infill of  claim 3 . 
     
     
         6 . An object comprising the pellets of  claim 1 , wherein the object is selected from the group consisting of an athletic field, a tennis court, landscaping, a putting green, a backing, a track, playground material, a baseboard, fiber, and a container.
