Abstract

A water filtration membrane including an oligo- and polyurethane of formula —(X) n — where n ranges from 2 to 100, where (X) is a block of formula (A) is a residue of an aliphatic or aromatic diisocyanate linker, (B) is a residue of a linear oligo- or polysiloxane containing alkanol end groups, and optionally further containing one or more aliphatic ether moieties.

1 . A water filtration membrane, comprising an oligo- and polyurethane of formula —(X) n —
 wherein n ranges from 2 to 100, where 
 (X) is a block of formula 
 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         (A) is a residue of an aliphatic or aromatic diisocyanate linker, 
         (B) is a residue of a linear oligo- or polysiloxane, comprising an alkanol end group, and optionally further comprising an aliphatic ether moiety. 
       
     
     
         2 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 1 , further comprising at least one organic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyrolidone, polyvinyl acetates, cellulose acetates, polyacrylonitriles, polyamides, polyolefins, polyesters, polysulfones, polyethersulfones, polycarbonates, polyether ketones, sulfonated polyether ketones, polyamide sulfones, polyvinylidene fluorides, polyvinylchlorides, polystyrenes and polytetrafluorethylenes, copolymers thereof, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 1 , wherein
 (A) is a divalent residue selected from C 2 -C 12 alkylene and Ar;   (B) is a divalent residue of an oligo- or polysiloxane of the formula
   -[Ak-O] q -Ak-Si(R 2 )—[O—Si(R 2 )] p —O—Si(R 2 )-Ak-[O-Ak] q′ -  (IV)
 
   wherein Ak is C 2 -C 4 alkylene, R is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and each of q and q′ independently is a number selected from the range 0-50, and p ranges from 1 to 50;   Ar is -Ph-Sp-Ph-;   Ph is phenyl or phenyl substituted by C 1 -C 4 alkyl; and   Sp independently is selected from the group consisting of direct bond, —O—, and C 1 -C 3 alkylene.   
     
     
         4 . A method, comprising imparting antiadhesive or bacteriostatic properties to a water filtrating membrane with an oligo- or polyurethane of formula —(X) n — bacteriostatic properties to a water filtration membrane,
 wherein n ranges from 2 to 100, where 
 (X) is a block of formula 
 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         (A) is a residue of an aliphatic or aromatic diisocyanate linker, 
         (B) is a residue of a linear oligo- or polysiloxane, comprising an alkanol end group, and optionally further comprising an aliphatic ether moiety. 
       
     
     
         5 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 1 , wherein n ranges from 2 to 50. 
     
     
         6 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 1 , wherein (B) is a residue of a linear oligo- or polysiloxane comprising 3 or more Si atoms. 
     
     
         7 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 1 , wherein (B) is a residue of a linear oligo- or polysiloxane, further comprising an aliphatic ether moiety. 
     
     
         8 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 2 , wherein the organic polymer is at least one selected from the group consisting of polysulfones, polyethersulfones, polyvinylidene fluorides, polyamides, cellulose acetate and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The water filtration membrane according to  claim 3 , wherein p ranges from 2 to 50.
