Abstract

A system to permit a user-friendly approach to determine and access the portions of a program code associated with respective web page components is described. In one example embodiment, a method and system to maintain a web page may be utilized advantageously to permit users to navigate directly from content strings in a web page to the master text content. The mapping embedded in a web page allows a JavaScript embedded in the web page to pop-up an editing window such that a change to the text in the web page performed by a user may be communicated to the server-side content management system for review and acceptance.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method comprising:
detecting, in a markup of a web page, mapping between a component of the web page and a program code portion responsible for generating the web page component; based on the mapping, causing display of an editing window to a user, using at least one processor; detecting, from data provided by the user via the editing window, a change to the component of the web page; and communicating the change to a content management system for review and acceptance.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting of the mapping is in response to detecting a request to activate a mapping script associated with the web page.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the detecting of the request to activate a mapping script associated with the web page comprises detecting that a mouse cursor is positioned over the web page component.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the detecting of the request to activate the mapping script includes detecting a Ctrl Left-Click mouse sequence.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the detecting of the request to activate the mapping script includes detecting a request to activate JavaScript code.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mapping comprises a custom attribute placed on an hyper-text mark-up language (HTML) tag.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mapping comprises an additional HTML tag, the additional HTML tag wrapping a region of the HTML markup of the web page.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein granularity associated with the mapping is at a level of component boundary, the component associated with a user interface (UI) object in the web page.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein granularity associated with the mapping is at a level of an HTML tag in the HTML markup of the web page.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method is performed in a web browser application.

         11 . A system comprising:
a mapping detector, implemented using at least one processor, to detect, in a markup of a web page, mapping between a component of the web page and a program code portion responsible for generating the web page component; an editing window presenter, implemented using at least one processor, to use the mapping cause display of an editing window responsive to the detecting of the mapping; a change detector, implemented using at least one processor, to detect, from data provided by the user via the editing window, a change to the component of the web page; and a communicating module, implemented using at least one processor, to communicate the change to a content management system for review and acceptance.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the mapping detector is to detect the mapping in response to detecting a request to activate a mapping script associated with the web page.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the detecting of the request to activate a mapping script associated with the web page comprises detecting that a mouse cursor is positioned over the web page component.

14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the detecting of the request to activate the mapping script includes detecting a Ctrl Left-Click mouse sequence.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the detecting of the request to activate the mapping script includes detecting a request to activate JavaScript code.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the mapping comprises a custom attribute placed on an hyper-text mark-up language (HTML) tag.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the mapping comprises an additional HTML tag, the additional HTML tag wrapping a region of the HTML markup of the web page.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein granularity associated with the mapping is at a level of component boundary, the component associated with a user interface (UI) object in the web page.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein granularity associated with the mapping is at a level of an HTML tag in the HTML markup of the web page.

20 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions embodied thereon, the instructions executable by one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
detecting, in a markup of a web page, mapping between a component of the web page and a program code portion responsible for generating the web page component; based on the mapping, causing display of an editing window to a user, detecting, from data provided by the user via the editing window, a change to the component of the web page; and communicating the change to a content management system for review and acceptance.
