Abstract

Computerized systems and methods facilitate patient searches by identifying instances in which search input includes a common name that may return a large number of search results. A common name data store is generated that includes common names identified in a patient database. When a user enters search input into a patient search tool, the common name data store is queried to determine if the search input matches a common name. If so, a notification may be provided to the user to indicate the search input matches a common name. In some instances, a search may not be allowed on the patient database if the search input matches a common name.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . One or more computer storage media storing computer-useable instructions that, when used by one or more computing devices, cause the one or more computing devices to perform operations comprising:
receiving user input entered by a user using a patient search user interface; querying a common name data store based on the user input; determining whether the user input corresponds with a common name in the common name data store; if the user input corresponds with a common name, providing a notice for presentation that indicates the user input corresponds with the common name; and if the user input does not correspond with a common name, querying a patient database.

2 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the patient search user interface includes a single search input field.

3 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the patient search user interface includes a plurality of search input fields.

4 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the common name data store is automatically queried after receiving the user input.

5 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 4 , wherein the common name data store is repeatedly queried upon receiving each character inputted.

6 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the common name data store is queried after receiving a user command to perform a patient search.

7 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the user input corresponds with a common name in the common name data store if the user input is an exact match with a common name in the common name data store.

8 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the notice that indicates the user input corresponds with the common name is provided for presentation only if no additional search input is received beyond the user input corresponding with the common name.

9 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein if the user input corresponds with a common name, the operations further comprise preventing a query from being performed on the patient database.

10 . The one or more computer storage media of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
determining the user input is a partial match to one or more common names in the common name data store; and providing an indication of the one or more common names for presentation.

11 . A method in a clinical computing environment comprising:
receiving, via a first computing process, user input entered in a patient search user interface; querying, via a second computing process, a common name data store to determine if the user input corresponds with a common name; determining, via a third computing process, the user input corresponds with a common name; and providing, via a fourth computing process, a notice for presentation on a computing device that indicates the user input corresponds with the common name; wherein the first, second, third, and fourth computing processes are performed by one or more computing devices.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the common name data store is automatically queried after receiving the user input.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the common name data store is queried after receiving a user command to perform a patient search.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the notice that indicates the user input corresponds with the common name is provided for presentation only if no additional search input is received beyond the user input corresponding with the common name.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the method further comprises preventing a query from being performed on a patient database using the user input.

         16 . A system comprising:
a patient database storing information regarding a plurality of patients; a common name data store storing a plurality of common names from the patient database; one or more processors; and one or more computer storage media storing instructions that, when used by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to: receive user input entered by a user in a patient search user interface; query the common name data store to determine if the user input matches a common name in the common name data store; if the user input matches a common name in the common name data store and no additional search input is received, provide an indication that the user input matches a common name; and if the user input does not match a common name or additional search input is received, perform a search on the patient database.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the common name data store is automatically queried after receiving the user input.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the common name data store is repeatedly queried upon receiving each character inputted.

19 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the common name data store is queried after receiving a user command to perform a patient search.

20 . The system of claim 16 , wherein if the user input corresponds with a common name and no additional search input is received, the instructions further cause the one or more processors to prevent a query from being performed on the patient database.
